About the Program

Why appellate mediation can make sense even if a case proved resistant to settlement before, and how the dynamic differs from mediating cases still in the trial court. Plus, what you need to know about the Second District and Ninth Circuit appellate mediation programs.

John Derrick is a mediator and arbitrator with Alternative Resolution Centers and the American Arbitration Association. Before focusing full-time on ADR, John had an appellate law practice for almost 20 years. He is a former Chair of the State Bar’s Committee on Appellate Courts and a former Editor-in-Chief of California Litigation. He has been on the Second District Court of Appeal mediation panel since 2008.

This program is presented by the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) section, chaired by Jeffrey Kravitz and Robert M. Cohen.

BHBA's programs also meet the CLE eligibility criteria in Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and New Hampshire. Attorneys must individually apply for credit and, if mandated by the state, submit accreditation fees directly.
