Saturday October 1

Bullfrog Auto Open House and GMR Fall Driving Tour. Click Here to Register.

Bullfrog Auto, specializing in Porsche repair, has moved to its new location at 204 Boyer Circle in Williston. Jason and Susan Eastman are hosting an open house for all Porsche owners and enthusiasts on Saturday, October 1st, 10am – 1pm. You will be able to discuss “all things Porsche” with Jason and fellow Porsche expert Juan Machuca, and walk-through the new shop. Located on site and also participating in the event are Sun Stoppers and Washburn’s Auto Body. You can talk with the experts at Sun Stoppers about making your vehicle “sparkle, pop and easy to clean” via exterior detailing to include ceramic coating, paint protection film, and window tinting. If your vehicle requires more than exterior detailing, the experts at Washburn’s Auto Body can discuss anything from minor paint to collision repairs, as well as full body restoration.

And if the hunger pains strike, MARK BBQ will be on site offering their amazing BBQ for sale. So be sure to bring your appetite! There will also be space you to open those hoods and let everyone see first-hand why your Porsche is special!

NOTE: Please scroll down to see photos and feature story on Bullfrog Auto.

GMR Fall Tour Following the Open House - Starts 1:00pm

Immediately following the open house, at 1:00pm. GMR will host a driving tour from Williston to Richmond. The route that membership chair Brad Kennison has assembled is guaranteed to stimulate the senses with Vermont’s foliage. If you plan to join the tour please click here to register.

After departing Bullfrog Auto, we will make a few jogs over to Dorset St. and then head south transitioning to Shelburne Falls Rd. At the stop light we will turn right on Rt 116 and continue south through Hinesburg and Starksboro. At the intersection of Rt 17 we will turn left and begin our climb to higher

elevations which should bring about a noticeable change in foliage.

At Gore Rd. we will turn left and head north along the western slope of Camels Hump. This portion of the drive will take us through Huntington with the tour ending at the historic Old Round Church in Richmond, built in1812.

There are no planned stops on the tour which will last just over an hour. Upon reaching our destination if you are hungry or thirsty there are several establishments only minutes away which are listed here:

·     Stone Corral Brewery

·     Stone’s Throw Pizza

·     The Big Spruce – Mexican

·     Sweet Simone’s – Café, bakery

·     Hatchet – New American

·     Cumberland Farms – at the stop light

·     Exxon Mobile – at entrance to I-89

Access to I-89 heading north or south is approximately eight minutes away. Please Note – Do not use Rt 2 south due to road construction.

Click here for a look at the driving route on Google Maps

Volunteers Needed: Our driving tours are always in need of middle and sweep radio communication assistants. If you are willing to assist on this tour please drop a line to Brad at gmrpca@gmail.com ahead of time to allow for coordination. Doing so will expedite the tour start and more important, allows for a more efficient and enjoyable drive.

Annual Meeting & Luncheon & Tour

A Message from the GMR President

Join your fellow members for the Green Mountain Region’s Annual Meeting & Luncheon on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Sugarbush Resort in Warren. The meeting and luncheon will take place in the Castlerock Pub at the base of the mountain closest to the Super Bravo Quad chair lift.

The meeting will begin at 12.30pm with the lunch service beginning at 1.15pm. During the lunch service we will conduct a raffle with some neat prizes and remote-control racing. We have the Pub reserved from noon through 3.00pm so there should be plenty of time to conduct the official business and more importantly, plenty of time for socializing. Weather permitting, we will also have access to the Pub’s patio.

This year's meeting is especially important because we will hold elections for the four officer positions (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary), approve the 2021 Annual Meeting Minutes and have a member Open Forum.

If you would like to be a candidate for one of the offices drop a note expressing your interest to Lou Krieg at Lou@GMSW.com by October 8, 2022. Note: this is an all-volunteer club so please consider volunteering. The club does not run itself!

The cost for lunch is $40/person. The menu will include Montreal Grilled Chicken Breast (boneless breast of chicken with cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce and sliced tomato served on ciabatta bread brushed with chipotle mayo), Hummus Wrap (garlic hummus with baby spinach and roasted vegetables served in a flour tortilla wrap), Turkey Time (smoked turkey breast, Swiss cheese, crisp bacon with lettuce, tomato and cranberry mayo served on focaccia bread) accompanied mixed green and pasta salads, whole fruit, soft drinks and assorted fresh baked cookies.

Greater Burlington Area Tour

If you are interested in joining the GMR driving tour to Sugarbush Resort before the annual meeting, a short tour is being organized and led by Lou Krieg & Ann Pettyjohn. Despite the title the tour is open to all GMR members. The route will pass through the Appalachian Gap, over lots of recently new pavement, plenty of "twisty bits" and elevation changes. The gathering point will be at the Southbound I-89 Information Center (rest area) in Williston, just south of Exit 12. Among the villages the tour will pass through are Richmond, Hinesburg, Starksboro and Buell's Gore, past Mad River Glen, Fayston and into Warren and the Sugarbush Resort. Driving time is estimated to be about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Participants should plan to arrive at the Information Center by 9.45am. The tour will depart from the Information Center at approximately 10.30am and will be preceded by sign-in and the drivers meeting.

To register for the Annual Meeting Lunch and/or Driving Tour please go to msreg.com/AnnualMeeting2022.

Bullfrog Auto Back Story

Jason and Sue Eastman have put the finishing touches on their new Bullfrog Auto in Williston. They have been active Green Mountain Region members for many years. Sue is currently secretary of the GMR Board and Jason is always active as a volunteer on our tours and has been known to make on the spot fixes for those times when our cars don't want to move out for the drive!

We asked them to write up the back story and send a few photos.

By Sue Eastman

Bullfrog Auto

Jason started working on cars in 1994 when he enrolled in Essex Technical Center to avoid a high school bully. In February 1997, about a year after graduating, he was hired by Barry Washburn from Washburn's Service Center where he was introduced to the world of Porsche.

Above: Sue and Jason with their first grandchild!

Barry took Jason under his wing and taught him the basics and beyond for the next twelve years. Eventually Jason moved on to another shop, and continued to work on Porsches, along with VW/Audi. He wanted to open his own Porsche repair shop so he started working on Porsches part-time at home during evenings and weekends the summer of 2015. He found the work interesting, challenging and plentiful, so he left his full-time job and opened Bullfrog Auto in January 2016.

Bullfrog Auto Bay, Williston

In January 2022, we hired Juan Machuca as an employee after the Automaster made a business decision to no longer service Porsche. The extra person, tools and clientele overwhelmed our small home business so we started searching for a space that would provide more room and a convenient location. The opportunity to be located next to an auto body shop and an external detailing business just off I-89 in Williston checked all of the boxes for our business vision and customers' needs.

Bullfrog Auto shop.

Juan attended Fordham University from 1987 to 1992, when he realized his pursuit of finance and business administration wasn't the correct path for him. He made the decision to move to Vermont to attend Vermont Technical College and study automotive technology, having had a fascination with all things mechanical from a very young age. While in the auto tech program at VTC, he interned at the Automaster during the summer of 1995, and upon completion of the program, began working at the Automaster full-time. HIs first interest was Mercedes-Benz, but he was soon offered the opportunity to move into Porsche service when the Automaster's primary Porsche technician left. He then became the Automaster's lead Porsche Technician from 1998 to 2022.

Bulldog Auto Shop Dog Moxie Enjoys the Ride!

We service all Porsche makes and models from 1948 - current model year. We perform work ranging from basic routine service intervals to engine and transmission rebuilds. If the need arises for body work, we coordinate with the body shop and take the car apart so they can do the needed paint and body repairs, allowing each business to focus on its strengths while keeping all of the work under one roof. At this time, we are not able to perform warranty work and software updates, but have close working relationships with Porsche authorized dealerships and can refer you as needed.

We look forward to meeting GMR PCA members at our Open House event this coming Saturday!

GMR COVID Precautions

The GMR Board is concerned about the health and welfare of members participating in our events and intends to take the necessary steps to minimize a future outbreak. To that end the Board strongly recommends that GMR event participants take prudent measures to mitigate the spread of COVID. For example …

Being fully vaccinated and boosted provides the most protection against COVID as well as addressing the effects from an infection.

On the day of the event

  • If you have any COVID symptoms, the flu, or other contagious illness - PLEASE STAY HOME. If you need to cancel because of illness the club will refund your event fees. We will miss you but staying home will protect your fellow members especially those who may be immunocompromised and at risk of serious illness.
  • Consider self-testing before you leave for the event. Test kits are generally available locally and on-line. For more information, you can access the Vermont Department of Health’s COVID website at https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19. If you test positive for COVID - contact your health care provider and STAY HOME. As above if you need to cancel the club will refund your event fees.
  • Consider wearing a mask especially during indoor activities. Examples of high-quality masks are N95 or KN95 masks, which are very good at blocking droplets. You can also wear a well-fitting mask with at least two layers of tightly woven fabric or layer a disposable mask under a cloth mask to increase effectiveness.
  • Exercise appropriate social distancing.

The Board recognizes that taking these measures are not an absolute guarantee that you will not spread or contract COVID but they will go a long way towards protecting our members. Thank you for your consideration.

Want your spouse or partner to get these
Green Mountain PCA Newsletters?

When you joined PCA (recently or forever ago) you no doubt listed your partner or spouse as a co-member. Many co-members however have not provided their email addresses. If your spouse/partner would like to receive the Mountaineer as well as yourself, have them call PCA HQ at (410) 381-0911‬ and give PCA the information. It only takes a few minutes as PCA is very efficient. That way you both will receive The Mountaineer and other pertinent club emails.

If your co-member remembers his or her co-member login (it is separate from the main member) you can do it that way too-- but calling is probably the quickest.
Member Feature:
Send us your photos!

We have started a feature highlighting a different member in the GMR Mountaineer with his or her Porsche. If you would like to be featured in future newsletter please submit some photos of you and your car along with a paragraph or two explaining why you joined the GMR, your favorite drives or whatever!

Please reply to this email with your photo and information.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
