To the followers of Jesus known as Brenham FUMC:

Our new year has started well with continued times of meaningful worship, strong attendance in our small groups - both on Sundays and during the week. 2023 is shaping up to be a fantastic year of fellowship and ministry.

My main hope for February is that we see the completion of the kitchen in the Activity Center as well as the new meeting room that used to be the backstage area. What a great joy it will be to enjoy the fellowship of a good meal cooked with love by the people of this church! As for work being done, the other hope is that the HVAC units in the Sanctuary will all be updated and working very soon as well (it may be done by the time you read this).

Of course, those hopes are just in regard to facilities and upkeep - certainly important. More significant, however, is the start of Lent, which also happens in February. Ash Wednesday is February 22. We will have a service at noon and at 7pm that day, both in the Sanctuary. Lent can be a deeply moving season if we let it be, so I hope you will come as we begin the journey of repentance and renewal.

One last ministry note for February - at the beginning of the month I will be having some information sessions about a trip to Israel in March of 2024. You can see that information below. I traveled with this organization in Israel in 2020 and had a truly life-giving experience. I invite you to come and hear about what's involved and how to get signed up. We have space for 20 people (Jan and I are already signed up, so 18 more), so I encourage you to come and see if you want to be part of this group.

You all continue to bless and amaze me with your love for Jesus and your love for one another. There is much happening in our world these days, but you continue to live gracious, generous, and hopeful lives. I am inspired by the faith and commitment I see in so many. Thank you for who you are and who you are willing to be by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you.

God continues to do great things in us and among us. In the month of January we had 8 new members join the church. A special welcome to Danny Tabor who is a new clergy spouse - husband of Pastor Madison.

If you see these folks around the church or around town, be sure to introduce yourself and welcome them to the family!

Wednesdays during Lent you are invited to bring a lunch and join others in the study of Jesus last words. We plan to have coffee and water available. If you would like anything else, please bring it with you.
