Greetings!

We are collecting gently used coats for the "Lawyers Lending a Hand" group of the DuPage County Bar Association. Please drop off any donations to the office by Wednesday, November 16th.

Last year 1,600 coats were distributed to needy residents of DuPage County through this program.

Sincerely,

David

Safety or Revenue?

Proponents of cameras that capture stoplight violations make the dubious assertion that this promotes safety.

Anyone who has received notice of a violation that occurred when someone else was driving the car knows the truth: The practice is intended to promote revenue.

The relevant statute bears this out.

The citation is issued to the owner of the car not to the driver. The violation does not go on the driving record of the owner. And the I-was-not-the-driver defense only avoids the "traffic education program." The owner remains liable for the fine. (625 ILCS 5/11-208.6).
