Westchester County DES SCBA Upgrade

WCDES_Scott_AAA Logo

AAA Emergency is in the process of completing the upgrades to 60 Westchester County, NY Department of Emergency Service (WCDES) Scott SCBA. The facility which hosts and runs training for all Westchester County and some surrounding fire departments and emergency service agencies, has been utilizing Scott SCBA from varying eras for many years now.

The recent upgrade brings all SCBA in compliance with the most recent NFPA SCBA standard and standardizes the organizations entire fleet of breathing air products. Included in the upgraded SCBA are: integrated PASS devices, Rapid Intervention Connections (RIC/UAC), and a new 5 year warranty on all packs.

AAA Emergency wishes WCDES the best of luck with their new standardized fleet of SCBA and looks forward to continuing to work with them on future projects.

RIT Emergency Escape Training & Refresher

As the fall approaches, this is a reminder that departments may be due for RIT refresher training. According to manufacturer recommendations, all certified firefighters who have completed initial training and have been assigned a RIT emergency escape system, shall complete a minimum of annual refresher training, with one of the training/refresher slides serving as annual certification slide of the firefighters own RIT escape system.

Emergency escape training is a perishable skill which must be reviewed regularly to ensure complete confidence in ones escape system and abilities. AAA Emergency is here to assist your department in meeting the needs of your Bailout Training Programs and protocols.

In addition, New York State has recently updated some parts of the law which created emergency escape system and component mandates in New York State several years ago. For those who have not read about those changes and updates please check out this New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Article for more details: NYSAFC Bailout Article

Our mobile training unit and highly qualified instructors are currently available for scheduling throughout the fall and into the winter. For questions and to schedule your FD bailout session, please contact Rob Mancini, our Bailout Training Coordinator.

"Veni - Vidi - Vici"

As Julius Caesar said, " I came...I saw...I conquered..."

Combustible and toxic gases can create a source of potential injury and destruction.  With new technology, gas detectors can help firefighters detect and aid in defusing a volatile situation. Like any other piece of equipment, it is only one more tool to help firefighters in a dangerous situation and, in effect, protect the community.

After careful evaluation, Tarrytown Fire Department., under the direction of Chief Gasparre, has purchased a number of Industrial Scientific Ventis MX4 Gas Detectors with pumps along with an Automatic Calibration Station. These new units which sense combustible-explosive gases, oxygen deficiency, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide will provide readings and warnings to firefighters. Also, the new gas detectors will allow firefighters to evaluate carbon monoxide alarms in homes and buildings.

Along with the meters, Tarrytown has purchased a calibration stand that allows them to calibrate and check the sensors in their meters on a timely basis in order to comply with all OSHA requirements.

Congratulations to the Tarrytown Fire Dept. for their commitment to not only providing safety and a quick response to their community but to their own members.

Case Commander

The Case Commander™, by American Trade Mark Co. is the ultimate Incident Command Accountability System. The Case Commander™ Command System allows the I.C. to easily track assignments of personnel and apparatus at an incident through the use of the National Incident Management System. The dry erase surface has space for size-up notes, strategic & tactical planning, assignments, special hazards, tactical considerations, and more.

The I.C. can sketch a layout of the incident then place the magnetic tags representing Apparatus, Officers & Crews onto the board in the positions of their assignments. This allows the I.C. to track all fireground Groups and Divisions as well as the Officers leading them. A timer clock with an alarm tracks time and facilitates prompt PAR reports.

Included in this setup are 50 custom engraved magnetic tags representing a department's apparatus and officers. These tags are typically engraved with the Radio designations of all department officers, Apparatus, as well as, common mutual aid providers.

National Foam Universal Gold

National Foam wins the Gold with Universal Gold 1%-3% AR-AFFF Foam.

Environmentally responsible Universal Gold is the next generation in Alcohol-Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foams (AR-AFFFs). This proven product demonstrates National Foam's commitment to superior flexibility, firefighting performance, and environmental responsibility.

Universal Gold is used at 1% or 3% to extinguish hydrocarbon fires and 3% for polar-solvent fires and oxygenated fuel blends. In addition, it is suitable for use with foam compatible dry powder extinguishing agents.

Universal Gold is an AR-AFFF concentrate designed to fulfill two functions. The first is to form a protective membrane between the fuel and the foam as it contacts the fuel, making extinguishment possible. The second function is to make the foam more stable and heat-resistant, resulting in better burnback resistance and sealability compared to conventional AFFFs.

AAA Emergency Supply has been awarded the Westchester County, NY contract for Universal Gold Foam. Contact us today for more details on how your department can go Gold!
