What We Leave Behind

by Pastor Eric Maggio, HCS Board Member

What we leave behind, our legacy, it’s not something we always think about but it really should be.  If you had to give your child one last piece of advice what would it be?

King David right before he died said this to his son Solomon: “‘I am about to go the way of all the earth,’ he said. ‘So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.’” (1 Kings 2:2-3)

I like that David actually tells Solomon to “act like a Man.” That makes me laugh every time I read it.  To a large extent, our culture has devalued what it means to be a man. It has even defined such a thing as an undesirable trait, but this was not always the case.

Attention Senior Class of 2025

April 22 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Del Cerro Baptist Church Sanctuary

5512 Pennsylvania Ln, La Mesa, CA 91942

Class of 2025, please make plans to attend this information and planning meeting.

This is an important meeting for all incoming seniors, particularly if this is your first graduate. Drafts of transcripts, dates and deadlines, and more will be covered in this meeting. It is strongly recommended that at least one parent attend. Students are strongly encouraged to attend as well.

Upcoming seniors in attendance will be eligible to enter a drawings for a yearbook, a coupon for 50% off one formal ticket, and a coupon for 50% off the Disney ticket price for grad night. This will be the official kick-off to your upcoming final year of high school! We hope to see you there.

Please Plan Ahead

All HSL accounts will be PARKED and rendered unusable on April 17th ahead of class registrations. If there is anything you wish to sign up for on HSL, be sure to do so before April 17th.

To be UNPARKED, you will need to have completed the following three things:

  1. Re-enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year
  2. Be current on your financial account
  3. Have submitted 1st-semester grades

Accounts will be unparked once these three things have been completed according to the following schedule:

  • April 18th - Lead teachers at an academy or co-op class day and everyone on the HCS Leadership Team
  • April 19th - HCS members
  • April 22nd - New families

Important Reminder!

Remember to advance your student's grade level in your Profile. HSL does not do this automatically. You could run into issues registering for age/grade-restricted classes, clubs, and events if your student is not listed in the correct grade.

Some classes and/or campuses tend to fill quickly. Be certain you can register when you qualify.

Principal's Choice Award Nominations

One male and one female student from the Class of 2024 will receive a Principal's Choice Award during the graduation ceremony. Any parent, coach, or teacher within the HCS community may nominate students. While not all nominees need to qualify in all six of the below categories, these categories will be used in determining selections.

Qualifying Considerations:

  1. No disciplinary action in their high school years
  2. GPA - 3.3 or above
  3. HCS Student Life - someone who is involved in the community of HCS via clubs or classes
  4. Community involvement - leadership or volunteer work in other ministries
  5. Church involvement - involved in church life such as Bible study, youth group, serving in church positions, etc.
  6. Has attended HCS for at least all four high school years.

Please email your nominees (as many as you would like) to principal@hcssd.org no later than May 1st. Please include responses to all six categories if known with your nomination. The selected students will be announced at the graduation ceremony.

Changes for the 2024-2025 School Year

A few administrative changes are coming your way. You'll find them listed here for quick reference.

Enrollment for the 2023-2024 School Year Now Closed. In the past, we accepted enrollments all year long. Moving forward, enrollment for the current year will close when enrollment for the upcoming year opens.

"Academy Only" Level Terminated. Access to both academies will only be available to enrolled HCS members.

Enrolling as a Senior Fee Increase. The additional fee to newly enroll as a senior or graduating year has increased to $500 per student. This fee only applies to students who are not already enrolled in the school.

Tuition Increase. Monthly tuition will increase by $2.00/month for K-8 and $5.00/month for K-12. New Enrollment and Previous Family Enrollment fees will increase by $5.00 for the first student. There is no change to the currently enrolled re-enrollment fees.

Service Levels Dissolved. In the past, we offered "Full" and "Class Day" service levels. Going forward, there will be no service levels. Everyone is a member paying a base tuition rate. Members are able to add on additional services (classes or clubs) for differing increased costs. See the new fee sheet on the website for details.

Class Days Term Update. In an effort to further distinguish between Academy classes and Class Day classes, we are changing the terminology for class days to "Co-op Class Days."

The Four Co-op Class Day Campuses. With the renaming of one co-op class day and the moving of another, the four Co-op Class Day Campuses are:

Bonita Co-op Class Day Escondido Co-op Class Day San Diego Co-op Class Day Santee Co-op Class Day

New Club. Flag Football will be added to our sports offerings for the 2024-2025 school year.
