OAESV is offering free legal consult clinics and they are collaborating with ONCAC to bring these clinics to CACs as well!
The Ohio Survivor Legal Assistance Clinic holds virtual office hours to provide a safe space for Ohio survivors and their advocates to connect with an attorney. Virtual office hours will allow survivors to discuss legal options, connect with resources, and/or have a brief consultation. Call 216-282-1559 to connect.

Creating a Community Action Plan for the Prevention
of Child Sexual Abuse
Free Online Training:
20-21 September & 24-25 October
Join other child-serving professionals to create a plan of action for preventing child sexual abuse of youth in your care. Learn the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, mandated reporter and stakeholder responsibilities. Identify strengths and weaknesses of current prevention practices, and develop an action plan, using the Strategic Prevention Dashboard, for your organization. This course is open to all members of child serving organizations such as preschool, after-school care, summer camps, church groups, athletic associations or others responsible for the care of minors.

What Are They Running From?
Youth Trauma and Addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences
Online Training:
25-26 September & 4-5 December
Discuss why juveniles runaway and dangers that apply to youth during this time-frame. Explore strategies for interrupting chronic runaway behavior, while providing a tool to help assess and document runaway reasons, behaviors, and intervention options. Consider trauma that can occur during these runaway events and approaching youth during traumatic events.

Forensic Nursing Exams and the ADA

Forensic nurse examiners (FNEs) provide trauma-informed, patient-centered medical forensic care for people who have been victims of violent crimes. This includes anyone with a disability. When patients arrive for medical forensic care, FNEs with specialized training need to be provided as an accommodation under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). In partnership with Forensic Nursing Network, join us for an important conversation about the accommodations, accessibility and trauma-informed practices FNEs can provide.

Online Verbal De-Escalation and Conflict Resolution Training

Join us to learn how de-escalation techniques and communication skills can potentially defuse tense situations and lead to more successful outcomes. Avoid potential conflict both professionally and personally by learning to organize your thinking and responding calmly. Consider the approaches you can take to prevent and respond to verbal conflict. Explore the communication process, conflict prevention, and understand why conflicts occur. Instruction will also cover certain circumstances in which verbal de-escalation techniques may not be appropriate and provide techniques to resolve such conflicts.

NCJTC - Following the Evidence in Child Abuse and Child Exploitation Cases Free Training - 26 & 27 October 2023
This 2-day training will focus on going beyond a child’s word and seeking evidence to corroborate a child’s statement. Various members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, such as law enforcement, child protective services and forensic interviewers may gather different or differing information. You will focus on the evaluating evidentiary findings through crime scene images, interviews and case studies and highlight the importance of working cooperatively with other disciplines for the benefit of child victims and the prosecution of offenders.
