2024 Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education will take place on October 16 at the Institute. Members will have the opportunity to vote on a strategic plan, recently endorsed by the Board of Directors. The draft strategic plan, which will guide the organization through 2027, is available on our web page here. We will have a free virtual discussion on Zoom for feedback and questions on September 30 at 2 pm Eastern, 11 am Pacific. See more information and register on our website. 

Members will also be asked to ratify a slate of candidates for Board membership that includes Joe Bertolino, President of Stockton University; Manny Velasquez, Director, Career Education at University of North Florida; and Gillian McKnight-Tutein, Chief Educational Equity Officer for the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Candidate information will be added to the website and an official notice and agenda will be sent out in June to all members eligible to vote.

Upcoming Webinars

There is still time to sign up for our first webinar of the fall season: a free webinar on Voter Education for LGBTQ+ Students on August 28. We have joined a coalition of nonpartisan LGBTQ+ organizations to shape discussions on public policy, fight for equality and advance LGBTQ+ rights through voting. Orlando Gonzales will discuss efforts to help LGBTQ+ college and university students learn about election issues and voting rights.

Newly added webinar: Queering STEM focuses on the challenges and opportunities LGBTQ+ people face in the academic sciences. This webinar is free for members and $25 for nonmembers.

Patricia Rogers, who has led Lake Superior College as president for the past five years, announced that she will retire on June 30, 2025. Read the announcement.
