Good Morning and let's start with the obvious... no, I didn't create a new newsletter format and yes, I am still using this MVP (Minimum Viable Product). Good news is most of you seem to be OK with my "minimalist" approach for now.
In this issue I will be talking about:
- Midwest Recruiting Bootcamp
- MinneDemo
- Tech hiring in Minneapolis/St Paul and the Midwest
- Online Chat: Managing your tech and startup career
- Job search webinar
I woke up this morning feeling a bit introverted after being at MinneDemo last night. For those of you outside of the MN tech scene MinneDemo and MinneBar are the largest tech events in the area. Last night 1000+ were at Pantages Theater to hear 7 groups demo their software for 7 minutes. Kicking off the event was an all girls developer and robotics team. Lots of conversations were had about the growth of the Minneapolis / St Paul tech scene, how venture capital is much easier to find and many, many recruiting conversations.
Here's a photo (a full balcony not shown):
MinneStar, the organizer of these events, rolled out a great new web site this week. Check it out by clicking MinneStar web site.
I am also realizing as this weekend ends we are half way through summer. I'm not good with that. I am good with this bass I caught last week... my new record 5 lb+:
A few frequently asked questions from the previous newsletter:
- I will put this out 1-2 times per month with the next one being July 24th
- Yes, I will post your recruiter and related jobs
- No, they do not need to be just in Minneapolis/St Paul. I'll post roles that are in the "Midwest"
- Yes, I have ideas of a couple of more events to do this year
- Yes, I am available to pick up a sourcing or consulting project or two
- I think the Gopher football team will do "OK" this year. I am picking 8 wins

UPDATE: Midwest Recruiting Bootcamp
I am finalizing the agenda and speaker list over the weekend (some of the names and links to them are already posted) and will have it live Monday morning. It's a great lineup of speakers who have spoken at SourceCon, ERE, SHRM, TalentNet and HRTech and you have read them on Fistful of Talent, ERE and Recruiting Daily.
We will cover 10 topics including how to recruit women and people of color, how to source, recruiting and hiring, employer branding, tools to use other than LinkedIn, write better job descriptions and how to recruit in and to the Midwest.
Because the first notice of the event went out during the holiday week I am extending the $299 pre sale ticket through Monday, June 17th. After that and until the event tickets are $399.
Our region has not seen a recruiter conference like this and I am thrilled to have these Community Supporters lending a hand:

Minneapolis And Midwest IT Hiring To Increase 2nd Half Of 2017
A recent Robert Half survey shows that IT hiring in Minneapolis and the Midwest is going to increase as the year goes on. I'm sure this shocks no one. What did shock me was only 17% of CIO's are worrying about retention.

Managing Your Tech And Startup Career
Like at MinneDemo last night, MinneBar in April and user groups and meetups throughout the year I have a lot of career and salary related conversations. The next big event is not for a couple of months so I am hosting an online chat next week, July 19th from 1-2 pm CT to talk about what I am seeing and for listeners to ask questions.

Job Search Webinar
Continuing with the previous topic it seems a large number of people are thinking about their career path and planning a job search that lands them into something new by the New Year.
So I am bringing back my "Be Your Own Headhunter" webinar where I show people how I would do a job search. It's a bit aggressive in nature and tone and cuts through some of the nonsense advice I think people hear. I am doing that July 25th.
Whew... there's a lot going on and I know many of you do too. If you have an event, webinar or something you think people I know would be interested in send it to me. I will start including some of them in future messages.
