Safety Update from Ms. Parey
Dear St. Alphonsus Families,
Welcome to the month of May! The time is quickly passing and before you know it, we will be celebrating the last days of school. There is still a lot of learning to do and that includes practicing our Lockdown procedure for our school.
We are very pleased to work with the Greendale Police Department to update our current safety procedures. We practice a variety of safety procedures which include fire drills, tornado and bad weather drills, and Hold in classroom procedures for medical emergencies. Our next procedural practice will be the Lockdown drill.
A Lockdown is put into place when there is a threat to the school. Most commonly we think of an intruder either outside or inside. We are working through what we will be doing in our rooms to make sure that all of these procedural steps are locked in and make necessary changes. The only real way to do this, is to practice a drill.
The staff will be practicing and talking with your children about what to do and why this is important. When your child (ren) come home please talk with them about what was learned and what his/her job is during the drill. This will help subside some of the anxiousness that goes with practicing drills of any kind.
We will experience an actual drill as a school on May 22nd. Our school resource officer, Officer Hudson, will be here to lead the drill. Our safety team which includes myself, the Leadership team, both priests, our head of maintenance and our Director of Ministerial Support will be on hand to learn about how a Lockdown works and the role they play in supporting the school. Mrs. Rublis and Mrs. Warrichaiet play an integral part as well, having to keep the communication piece flowing.
I am very happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have regarding this drill. There have been some Lockdown drills over the years but they need to become a yearly practice just like the drills I named in a previously.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update. Please contact me via email with questions at any time.
Have a great week!
Ms. Parey

Help Still Needed at the Parish Auction!
The parish auction is this Friday and we are still in need of a few student volunteers to help serve. This is a great opportunity for service hours. Sign your student up here.
In addition, Mrs. Schermetzler is still looking for two wine stewards for the auction. This is usually a husband and wife team, but it could also be a set of friends! It is a low-key and fun commitment taking place from 6:45 to 8:30ish or so. The wine stewards do not have to pour wine, but they monitor our selection of wine and deliver additional wine bottles to the tables. It is a fun way to attend the auction for free! Please contact Mrs. S. directly if you are interested.

Middle School Minutes: War Memorial Field Trip
Middle School Visits War Memorial Museum
Our middle school students recently took a trip to visit the War Memorial Museum down by the Milwaukee Lakefront! Students had the opportunity to learn about and understand the significance of military service and the history behind the War Memorial Center. They also learned how our local history is directly connected to the United States, and military history through the courage and sacrifice of service members and their families. They even had a chance to experience boot camp!
All of the students really enjoyed the experience and wrote a giant thank you card to their tour guide.

The Girl Scouts of St. Alphonsus are organizing a toy drive for the “Magic Room” at the Ronald McDonald House at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
This all-school Girl Scout project will help children and their families who are dealing with a serious illness. Children are able to pick a toy of their choice in the “Magic Room” to make their stay a little brighter. Illness affects the whole family and your donation can help with coping, distraction and comfort.
The collection will be from May 13th to May 17th. Donations can be dropped at the Ronald McDonald box in front of the main office in the hallway. New toys only, please. Thanks in advance for supporting St. Alphonsus Girl Scouts & the Ronald McDonald House!
