CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF IMPACT: LIPMAN 5K/WALK

A decade of running, a decade of giving! This past Saturday, Lipman Family Farms held its 10th annual 5k/Walk to raise funds for backpacks, school supplies, shoes, and bikes for Immokalee students. Healthcare Network was once again the proud presenting sponsor for the 5K and had over 130 runners and walkers!

Each year, in August, Lipman Family Farms hosts the Lipman Backpack giveaway to help underserved students better prepare for the start of the new school year. During the event, Healthcare Network will offer free health screenings, educational materials, and fun giveaway items! More information to come soon.

As presenting sponsor, Healthcare Network understands that to achieve community health and well-being, they must go beyond the doors of the doctor's office and meet the community where they are. One way they achieve this is by supporting events that give back to the community! Check out the photos from the race!

UNLOCK THE POWER OF HEALTHY EATING

Insights from a Healthcare Network Nutritionist

Healthy eating is directly related to better health through stronger immune systems, lower risk of non-communicable disease, and longevity. In fact, the benefits of healthy eating include brain development, stable energy, strong bones and teeth, alertness, clear thinking, maintaining a healthy weight and so much more!

To help families improve their nutrition and fuel their children’s bodies most effectively, Healthcare Network dietician nutritionist Paulina Gonzalez Rul, MS, LDN, CNS, shares tips on how you can add nutrient-dense foods into your family’s diet. She includes the types of foods you can start incorporating such as:

  • Beans, soybeans, and peas for fiber, folate, and protein
  • Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and collard greens for fiber, vitamins, and phytochemicals
  • Olive oil to help reduce the risk of heart disease
  • Fatty fish like salmon as a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids

WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC) PROGRAM

Do you work for an organization that serves vulnerable families and children? Make sure to mark this resource!

Check out WIC, a program for women, infants, and children up to age five, providing free:

  • Healthy foods
  • Nutrition education
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Healthcare referral

WIC isn't just about food. Participants get screenings, counseling, immunization help, and more. Children in WIC tend to do better academically and eat healthier. Plus, WIC saves on healthcare costs.

To see if you qualify, try the WIC pre-screening tool. It's quick and available in multiple languages. Note: this tool is not an application for WIC benefits but instead assesses eligibility for participation.

Ready to apply? Contact your local office to set up an appointment and get guidance on needed documents. Need assistance with the application or simply need a guide to help you navigate the whole process, please reach out to the Healthcare Network’s multi-lingual Community Outreach Team at 239.675.7080.
