As the year comes to a close we thank you for your contribution to our Northeast Ohio food economy. Purchasing local keeps profits in the hands of farmers, and reduces the miles (and emissions) that food typically travels.
Most small farms are diversified operations growing and raising a variety of vegetables and animals. Preserving this way of life also preserves genetic diversity in our food system. Heirloom tomatoes aren't bred to shipped long distances. Unless we grow these vegetables in our gardens we would miss out on the flavors of unique produce.
Smaller farms also have a smaller impact on the land. Farmers know their most important asset is the soil. Using crop rotation and natural fertilizers instead of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers keeps the soil and food that is grown in it healthier.
Thank you for supporting the small family farms and businesses in our Fresh Fork community.
