Dear Partners,
Several important child injury prevention awareness events are celebrated in April, including National Minority Health Month.
Not just this month, but every month, CSN actively works to advance health equity by:
- Leading and participating in national panels and workgroups to examine the impact of racism and discrimination on public health
- Providing technical assistance to Title V agencies on identifying inequities in access to services, adapting programs and resources for diverse populations, and advancing health equity in their communities
- Supporting Title V agencies in implementing evidence-based programs and interventions that promote child safety and wellbeing for priority populations
Below are some recent CSN resources that can support the work of Title V agencies in building programs, services, and systems that are more equitable:
Please visit our health equity webpage for more CSN health equity resources.
April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. In 2020, 1,750 children died as a result of abuse and neglect in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2020). Additionally, data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2011-2020 indicate that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are common in the U.S., with 63.9% of adult respondents recalling that they experienced at least one ACE as a child, and 17.3% experiencing four or more ACEs. Below are CSN and partner resources that provide more data related to child abuse and neglect, information about risk and protective factors, and resources to help inform prevention programs and practices.
Additional resources from our CSN-A partners are highlighted below in purple.
Please widely share these resources with your networks.
Kindly,
Jennifer Leonardo
