FEBRUARY 17, 2021 | NEWSLETTER
With temperatures expected to stay below freezing until Friday, here's what we know.
The City of Round Rock is working around the clock to provide essential services to the community, including public safety, utilities and transportation. Below are updates on City services and information on resources available to the public:

Power outages
The City of Round Rock does not manage electric utilities. Oncor and ERCOT are the best contacts related to outages and rolling blackouts. Oncor’s Wednesday, Feb. 17 service update is available here

Water
The City of Round Rock is operating generators to help with pumping water through the system. However, we urge residents to curtail non-essential water usage so the City’s water treatment plant can do its part to conserve electricity. Water should only be used for drinking, cooking and dripping faucets. At this time, we are prepared to continue providing water service at its current level and there is no boil water notice in effect for City of Round Rock utility customers. Any anticipated service changes will be posted to roundrocktexas.gov. For water or wastewater emergencies, call 512-218-5555.

Frozen pipes
If you are experiencing low water pressure or a water outage, and are a City of Round Rock utility customer, your pipes are most likely frozen. For tips on how to thaw frozen pipes, visit the American Red Cross’ Frozen Pipes webpage.

Trash and Recycling
Round Rock Refuse, the City's residential trash and recycling service provider, will provide pickup on the following schedule:
• Friday, Feb. 19 — Trash-only service for regular Thursday customers
• Saturday, Feb. 20 —Trash-only service for regular Friday customers
The regular pickup schedule will resume on Monday, Feb. 22, with trash-only service.
Trash service on these days includes seven bundles or bags in addition to your trash bin. Customers who intend to use their regular pickup service to discard tree limbs must bundle the limbs so the bundles are no more than 4 feet in length and weigh 40 pounds or less. The bundle cannot include tree limbs greater than 4 inches in diameter.
Round Rock Refuse will resume its normal recycle pickup schedule beginning March 1.
The Brush Recycling Center will remain closed through at least Thursday.

Road conditions
Round Rock Police Department is telling residents to stay off the roads if possible. As of Wednesday afternoon, most roads were covered in 8 inches of slush on top of a layer of ice. The overpass of Old Settlers Boulevard at IH-35, University Boulevard near Sunrise Road and all of SH-45 are particularly dangerous and should be avoided. Several traffic signals have been affected by power outages across town. If a traffic signal is out, treat it as a four-way stop.

City of Round Rock offices
City offices are currently closed, and will remain so through Thursday. The City’s decision to stay closed is due in part to reduce the need to provide full electrical power to its facilities.

All Municipal Court hearings scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 18, will be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Warming center
The City of Round Rock has opened the Baca Center, 301 W. Bagdad Ave., Building 2, as a warming center for residents in need. A warming center is a place for temporary warming and power recharges. Please bring your own food, water, blankets/outerwear and chargers. Warming centers are not set up for extended or overnight stays and may also be at risk to power loss or other service interruptions. No pets are allowed. Call 512-943-1700 to confirm the status of the center and for information on other warming centers in Williamson County. Pets are allowed in crates at some locations.

Generators for medical equipment
The Round Rock Fire Department has limited resources to charge life-saving medical equipment such as oxygen tanks. To request assistance, you may call the City’s non-emergency dispatch line at 512-218-5500. Please note that there is a high volume of calls at this time.

Transit services
Capital Metro bus service is not operating in Round Rock on Wednesday, Feb. 17 or Thursday, Feb. 18, due to inclement weather.

For updates on service, visit Capital Metro’s active alerts webpage at capmetro.org/service-alerts/Active-Service-Alerts/winter-weather-service-update. You can also sign up to receive alerts about service changes and interruptions to your phone at capmetro.org/metroalerts
