Taking Action

Tell Congress to Support Medicaid and Keep it Out of Final Debt Ceiling Negotiations!

House Republicans passed a debt ceiling bill agreeing to raise the debt ceiling for one year at the cost of trillions of cuts in programs over ten years. It also adds radical new work rules for all people ages 19 to 55 enrolled in Medicaid, with no automatic exemption.

The Arc United States developed a toolkit to help with outreach! It includes:

  • Key websites and educational materials;
  • Action alerts that people can use to text/email/call their legislators. We especially would love people to call their Member of Congress, as those are often some of the most impactful ways to connect;
  • Sample social media posts and graphics; and
  • A sample letter to the editor.

Also, we urge you to send a message to your members of Congress and ask them to protect Medicaid. Let’s make sure Congress knows vital disability services are OFF the table. Please share this important message with your networks.

Lawmakers Seek to Improve Air Travel for People with Disabilities

Earlier this month, legislation was introduced in the Senate and House calling for the Department of Transportation to research the technical and financial feasibility of allowing people to remain in their wheelchairs during flights. The bi-partisan effort would also require the secretary of transportation to mandate that airlines public dimensions of their cargo holds so that people with disabilities can determine if their mobility devices fit on the plane. Read more about this effort from Disability Scoop at the button below.
