Did you know...

...that Iria Leino was a Finnish supermodel and groundbreaking artist in New York City?

Iria Leino (1932-2022) was a pioneering Finnish abstract painter. She was one of the world's first supermodels who, in 1966, moved to a SoHo loft where she worked and lived until her passing. Her bold abstract paintings are a uniquely vibrant cultural fusion of Finland and America.

Harper’s Gallery's Chelsea 512 in New York will host an exhibition of her art on September 5.

Greetings:

As much as many of us hate to admit, summer is winding down.

Finlandia Foundation National has had a busy and productive several months, including a fantastic time as a significant sponsor of events at FinnFest in Duluth.

Please check out our previous e-blasts, the FFN website, Facebook and Instagram pages (scroll to links below) for info, and enjoy the photos of our involvement in that important annual cultural event.

TIP: Plan now to attend FinnFest USA at the end of July of 2025.

We still have a good number of summer days ahead---perhaps you are chilling at your own mökki (cabin); enjoying post-sauna grilled makkara; sharing “kippis” over cookouts; or hitting a hiking trail (albeit with

the bonus of buzzy bugs in some areas).

It is also time to think about the cozy season to come. We may be preparing to say farewell to our summer fun, but even as we do, we are gearing up for an exciting time of coming together over autumn activities you’ll read about in this e-news and beyond.

All the best,

Our goal is to tap the talent pool of this generation of Finns, Finnish-Americans and others in the U.S. who are intrigued by Finnish heritage and contemporary Finland, and are looking for a way to pursue and advance those interests.
