Greetings Ospreys,
AHS sophomores may not have completely worked out world peace through
Model United Nations this week, but they certainly developed their understanding of global politics, oration and negotiation. Thanks to all who came to observe, and to Humanities teacher Lori Fisher for helping them dive deeply into such an engaging project.
Seniors and their families are encouraged to join Jess Morrison Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 for her session on
Understanding Financial Aid. Getting accepted into college is just part of the work--learning how to finance college is the other piece. Fortunately, Jess' expertise is invaluable in this process for AHS families.
The next exhibition on the horizon is the
Climate Change Carnival with Tina Hott's Biology students on Thursday, February 20. Ninth grade students will present from 4:00 to 4:45 and tenth graders from 4:45 to 5:30, sharing projects they've created to demonstrate their understanding of the impact of climate change and to inspire positive action.
Immediately following the Biology Exhibition on the 20th, we'll host a
Math Department Open House from 5:30 to 6:30, where current and prospective families, local educators and community members are invited to learn more about how and why we do math differently at AHS
, offering grade-level math courses alongside a variety of electives that focus on real-world problems to develop relevant skills and knowledge for a 21st century future. Our students find success in competitive math and science programs in colleges and universities across the globe, and graduate from our core math program with a solid understanding of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics, with an option to add electives ranging from Engineering Mathematics to Consumer Math to Advanced Calculus. We recognize that there are many questions and misperceptions around math at Animas, and we are excited to provide this opportunity for folks to meet with our teachers and students to learn more. Come for the Biology exhibition, stay for the Math Department Open House and make an evening out of learning more about our unique STEM programs!
Just a reminder that we have a four-day week next week, followed by a four-day weekend, with no school on Friday the 14th, as it's our February Professional Development Day for staff and no school the following Monday for Presidents' Day.
Enjoy the weekend and thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
