CALM DOWN CORNERS ARE SAFE SPACES

Ensuring our kids have the tools they need for their emotional health is a top priority. Recently, two social work interns from Southeastern University worked under the supervision of a licensed mental health counselor to help teach important practices such as regulating emotions, conflict resolution, and stress reduction activities. In addition, the interns organized calm down corners in every classroom so students have a safe place that supports them emotionally and physically when they are feeling overstimulated.

CONGRATULATIONS, GRADUATES!

Charlie, a former PSM program student, graduated from Harrison School for the Arts and is headed to Polk State College where she will participate in chorus and study social work!

Jacob, son of our very own Education Director Christina Allen, graduated from Lakeland Christian School and is joining the U.S. Army this summer! Jacob spent many years in the Academic Enrichment Program and was a past participant of Workforce Lab—PSM’s experiential summer learning program that focuses young highschoolers on financial capability, career/education planning, soft job skills, and Jesus in all those things. Students earn stipends and a chance to match those stipends when they graduate on time. Jacob received his savings match and plans to use the money to save for a car!

PRAY WITH US

Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Will you pray with us in 2023? June prayer focus:

  • Smooth transition into Summer Camp for K-8 and Workforce Lab for highschoolers
  • Combating the “summer slide” in learning with academic enrichments during camp
  • Fellowship with families at neighborhood events
  • Increasing the number of faithful volunteers
