Park(ing) Day is a chance to create a mini park! It happens once a year in September and gives Portlandlers the opportunity to re-envision how we use our public spaces.
Participants temporarily turn on street parking spaces into parklets. Portland began participating in this international event in 2006. Park(ing) Day creates opportunities for residents, artists and activists to create more public spaces. Inspire creative thinking on how streets can be used!

1. Check your free credit reports. You can request a free copy of your credit report once a year from credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
2. Put a fraud alert on your credit. Which means you'll be contacted if someone tries to apply for credit in your name. 3. Keep an eye on bank accounts and credit card statements. Look closely at your bank, retirement, and brokerage accounts, as well as your credit card statements. Don't overlook small amounts that are not your charges. 4. Sign up for a credit monitoring or identity theft protection service. Monitoring services track your credit reports. Most alert you when a company checks your credit history, a new loan or credit card is opened in your name etc. 5. If you have been compromised, put a freeze on your credit. A freeze blocks anyone from accessing your credit reports without your permission. It's also not free, fees will apply. If you want to take out a loan or open a new credit card the freeze has to be removed. |

Host a student from France, Spain, or Japan for 2 - 4 weeks in September and build connections across the world through friendship!
The international students are coming to share cultures, practice English, and become part of an American family. Some students will be taking English classes from 9am to 5pm, M-F, at Portland State. While others will be immersed in their host families' daily lives and will not have any scheduled program obligations. Students bring their own spending money and are covered by comprehensive medical and accident insurance. Families receive orientation materials, 24/7 support, and a small hosting stipend. This is part of the Buckman Community Association's annual picnic from 3pm - 7pm, with many free family activities including a bounce house, BBQ foods, cake, and live music! Web-based version of PDX Reporter Replaces Phone Apps 
A new web-based version of PDX Reporter has been launched that replaces the existing iPhone and Android app. PDX Reporter allows you to report graffiti and certain livability concerns in Portland.
* Abandoned autos * Graffiti and tags * Illegal parking * Park maintenance needs * Plugged street drains * Potholes * Sidewalk issues * Failed or failing streetlights Use the PDX Reporter to report the following complaints:
* Graffiti * Campsite Reporting-Please note that the online reporting template at /react-text More Info asks more detailed questions about problems at a campsite.

Friends of Laurelhurst Park contribute to the health and beauty of Laurelhurst Park.
This upcoming work parties are 9:00 to noon on the second Wednesday of each month through October. Those who wish to participate may mark their calendars for October 11. Two remaining Saturday dates include Sept 23 and Oct 28, from 9 to noon. Questions or concerns may be addressed to Peggy Glascock (503-232-2406) or Barry Kast (503-477-7469). Hope to see you at the Ankeny Building at 9 am. (That is where SE Ankeny meets SE Laurelhurst Place.) | Build A Digital Defense
Summer is really over, time to wake up early, pack up the backpacks and lunch bags for another school year. Most kids are headed back to class with a cell phone in their pockets. More and more kids are getting phones by middle school -- some in elementary school.
Keep in touch with your student through the day. There are apps to help you keep track of your kid's movements minute by minute. Here are some basic phone tips to keep your child safe: * The phone should default to a locked setting. The only people who should have that access code are the child and the parent. * Beyond that, parents should know every password to every device and every password to every app on that device. Sure you want your kids to have some privacy as they grow up, but they are still kids. You pay the bill, and as long as that child is a child, she is your responsibility. * Check the privacy and security settings on the phone and the apps. Check regularly to make sure they are up-to-date. * Learn about how photos are geo-tagged. Even if you are discreet about what you post, your photos could be tagged in the meta-data with your child's exact location. Do you want just anybody to know what school your child goes to or what field his team uses for soccer practice? You should be able to turn this feature off in settings. * Teach your kids to never respond to calls, texts or emails from unknown numbers or people. Scam artists and predators are more than happy to victimize them, regardless of age. If your child is old enough to have and carry a phone, then it's also time to have a conversation with him about potential risks. If you or your child has been victimized by an online crime, make a report to the FBI. You can file an online report at the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center or call your FBI local office. |

Remind Your Child To: * Never walk while texting or talking on the phone. * If texting, move out of the way of others and stop on the sidewalk. * Never cross the street while using an electronic device. * Do not walk with headphones on. * Be aware of the surroundings. Scammers may try to trick you by choosing names and visuals that closely resemble reputable charities. They may ask you to purchase pre-paid VISA cards and give them the serial numbers from the cards. Once they are given them those numbers, they can cash out the cards and disappear. |
