MEMORIAL TO THOSE ENSLAVED AND FREED
On April 19, students, faculty, staff, trustees, and guests attended a dedication of The Memorial to Those Enslaved and Freed. The Memorial, created by accomplished artist and retired faculty member Oletha DeVane, was erected to honor the enslaved people whose forced labor contributed to the wealth that was the basis of the School’s founding. African drumming, a wreath-laying, a libation ritual, a reading of names of the enslaved inscribed on the memorial walls, and remarks by the artist helped mark this significant moment in McDonogh’s history. During Reunion Weekend, there was a special dedication for alumni, retired employees, and guests of the artist. After the ceremony, attendees filled the Klein Lyceum for the premiere of a documentary on the creation of the Memorial produced by Emmy Award-winning journalist, filmmaker, and writer Robin Hamilton 91. Watch the documentary.
NEW FUNDS ANNOUNCED, FACULTY CHAIRS AWARDED
During the annual Winter Faculty and Staff meeting on March 3, Head of School Dave Farace 87 announced the creation of a new science fund and a new faculty chair. In addition to awarding the first recipient of the new chair, he also had the honor of presenting the Louis E. “Doc” Lamborn Master Teaching Chair. Learn more.
COMMUNITY CELEBRATES SCHOLARSHIP
On April 10, more than 250 students, mentors, donors, Living Legacy Society members, trustees, faculty, staff, and special guests gathered to recognize one of McDonogh’s most important and enduring traditions. A RECAP OF REUNION WEEKEND

MCDONOGH VOICES FINISHES FIRST YEAR
The inaugural year of this stimulating discussion series designed to give stories about the School’s past a greater voice in McDonogh’s present and future focused on our understanding of history. After three community conversations and an art exhibit in Tuttle Art Gallery, the series concluded on April 29 with an inspiring dance performance. Nile Russell ’00, Naana Badu ’00, Jenn Ford ’00, and current students performed a piece that highlighted the dichotomy and complexity of McDonogh (the person and the School), the importance of creating greatness in difficult times, and a forward vision of the McDonogh community’s future.
