City Responds to Storm Impacts

Concord's Public Works crew has been hard at work cleaning up after the recent storms.

Recently, the team was out clearing residual mud from flooded roadways, repairing potholes, and cleaning up debris in city parks and throughout the community.

At last count, Concord had distributed 17,000 sandbags and 125 tons of sand from its 24/7 sandbag station located at 1455 Gasoline Alley.

Concord has been fortunate that the City has not suffered major impacts from the recent storms.

Although we had several downed trees, our Public Works crew was immediately able to clear those blocking city streets. In many cases, Concord Police Department officers were first on the scene, closing the roads and assisting with debris removal until the crew could arrive. This effective partnership enabled the team to respond quickly to each location.

The heavy rains also created new potholes; our crew identified and repaired about 250 potholes over the last two weeks. Remember, you can report potholes and other problems using our Concord Connect mobile app.

This Saturday, Jan. 21, Concord's Public Works crew will be out performing more pothole repairs. There will be a focused effort on main arterial problem areas as well as areas identified through reports from residents. The team will accomplish as much as possible on Saturday and evaluate potential locations needing attention the following week.

Residents can play an important role in storm damage prevention. Don't forget to remove leaves and debris from around the catch basin on neighborhood streets; trim tree branches that may be subject to breakage in high winds; check any drainage around your property to ensure it is free flowing; and please do NOT blow or rake yard/green waste into the gutters.

Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group Seeks Additional Members

The City of Concord is seeking a substance abuse professional, a mental health professional, and a business community representative (owns a business or commercial property in Concord) for its Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group. Applications for these three positions are due to the City Clerk by Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

The Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group will act as an advisory body to Council, staff and the project consultants, and will meet in person once per month, at minimum, for approximately 9 to 12 months to hear, discuss, and provide feedback as the strategic plan is shaped. Members are expected to attend all meetings, read all materials, and be prepared to listen and engage on the topics discussed.

The public recruitment for the other four positions (lived experience, nonprofit, veteran services, resident/property owner) is closed, and Council will be interviewing candidates for the closed positions at its Jan. 24 Council meeting.

At its Jan. 17 meeting, the Council extended the recruitment period for the substance abuse professional, mental health professional, and business community representative to encourage more application submittals.
