Construction to Begin on Willow Pass Road June 10
|
As we first reported on May 22, crews will begin construction on a major sewer project along Willow Pass Road next week, starting Monday, June 10, and the work will continue through November.
The project limits, as outlined on the map above, are Landana Drive to Gateway Boulevard.
The most intensive work will occur between Gateway Blvd. and East Street. Drivers are encouraged to avoid driving on Willow Pass Road (Gateway--East) between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. This segment of work will conclude in mid-October. Please consider taking Concord Avenue and Clayton Road.
The remainder of the project, from East Street to Landana Drive, will have lane closures within the traditional hours of 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will also be another project on Willow Pass Road beginning in July, which will have similar limits of work. More information about the two projects, as well as updates and photos as the projects progress, is available at www.cityofconcord.org/WillowPass.
You can also view our Construction Updates page to see specifically which lanes/roads will be closed in the near term.

Caltrans and CCTA Proposes the Completion of the (I-680) Northbound Express Lane Completion Project
|
Caltrans, in partnership with the CCTA (Contra Costa Transportation Authority), is proposing to complete the Interstate 680 (I-680) Northbound Express Lane Completion Project to address the existing express lanes gap, relieve congestion, reduce travel delays, and improve operations.
The proposed project would construct a northbound express lane from Livorna Road to State Route 242 (SR-242) and convert the existing northbound High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane from SR-242 to north of Arthur Road near Martinez to an express lane – which means both HOV and single-occupancy drivers who pay a toll can use the lane. The proposed project has four build alternatives (1C, 2, 3 and 5) and one no-build alternative.
Want to learn more? Join the CCTA on Wednesday, June 5, and Thursday, June 6 for their public meetings!
If you would like to learn more, the CCTA will be hosting two informational meetings that are open to the public.
The In-Person Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the CCTA office, 2999 Oak Road, Suite 110, Walnut Creek, 94597.

Use Concord Connect App to Report Fireworks
|
All fireworks (even those labeled "safe and sane") are illegal in Concord and all of Contra Costa County, except for permitted professional displays. This includes bottle rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, and sparklers.
Fireworks are dangerous and cause fires, which can result in severe injury and even death, as well as costly property damage.
People who possess, discharge, sell, or manufacture fireworks will be cited and fined.
To report illegal fireworks activity, please use the City's Concord Connect app. Select "Make a Request," and click on "Illegal Fireworks Reporting."
In 2023, the Concord Police Department deployed this successful strategy to help decrease fireworks-related calls to 911, improve response times to community reports of illegal fireworks use, and deter fireworks usage overall.
Between May 24, 2023 and July 5, 2023, 493 reports of illegal fireworks usage were reported through the app, while 79 fireworks-related calls came in through the City's 911 or non-emergency dispatch phone lines.
If you are reporting an injury, fire, or medical emergency, please call 911. If you are not reporting a life-threatening emergency, please use the app so the Police Department can keep its 911 dispatch lines open.
