Community Input Sought for Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Program

The City of Concord is considering several properties for a program that may change allowable land uses to facilitate the development of high-density residential housing. To discuss the next steps of this project and receive community input, the City is hosting two community meetings on this topic in mid-September.

This potential rezoning will not affect any current uses on the properties under consideration but will allow high-density residential housing to be built in addition to the existing permitted uses.

This initiative, known as the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Project (AFFH), is part of Concord’s Housing Element. The City is committed to rezoning at least 20 acres in higher resource neighborhoods to permit high-density multifamily development (up to 60 units per acre). These 20 acres will be distributed across various parcels within the study area.

Community Meeting Details (you only need to attend one):

  • In-Person Meeting: Monday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m. at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road, Concord
  • Virtual Meeting: Thursday, Sept. 19, 6 p.m. via Zoom (register today)

For more information and to view a list of properties under consideration for rezoning, please visit: www.cityofconcord.org/AFFH.

Volunteers Sought for Creative Concord Oct. 5-6

Creative Concord, in partnership with Local Edition Creative, is excited to return for its third season in Concord.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, from noon to 6 p.m., Creative Concord is an annual arts and culture experience tailored specifically for the Concord community.

Event organizers are seeking volunteers for two time slots for each day:

11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

& 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Don't worry -- no hard labor is required! Volunteers would simply staff the Creative Concord tent or the hospitality tent, and "roamers" would be asked to help out where needed. This is a fun way to be a part of the action! To learn more, please email info@creativeconcordca.com.

Working in partnership with Visit Concord and City staff, the event was established as a multi-day public art experience that engages a wide local demographic to unite via arts programming including murals, sculptures, music, and performing arts.
