New Web Page Shows Traffic Impacts of Construction Work

In Concord's December FlashVote survey of residents, 72% of respondents said they wanted the City to provide more information about "road construction updates."

You spoke and we listened. As we gear up for another busy year of roadwork around the City, our team will be updating our brand new "Construction Updates" web page to provide semi-monthly information about which projects are expected to create traffic impacts. Each section provides a map and lists the affected roads, dates, and the contact information for the project manager. Check it out!

Construction Success

Speaking of construction, the City of Concord completed a number of major projects in 2023 and, while you may have seen some work as you drove past a construction site, we wanted to give you a closer look. Check out our compilation video below, and get ready for more roadwork ahead! 🚧

Council to Adopt Rent Stabilization, Just Cause Ordinance March 5

At its meeting on Tuesday, March 5, the Concord City Council is scheduled to consider the adoption of an ordinance on rent stabilization and just cause for eviction, which it officially introduced on Feb. 13.

The ordinance would amend Concord’s municipal code on the residential tenant protection program and increase the “just cause” eviction protections, as well as expand the City’s rent registry and establish a rent stabilization program.

If approved by a majority vote, this ordinance would take effect 30 days after final adoption, on April 4, 2024.

In January 2023, the Council expressed its desire to protect the tenant community from displacement. Since then, it has held seven public meetings on this topic and has heard from dozens of property owners and tenants.

Council to Consider Base Reuse Term Sheet on March 19

NEW DATE: The City of Concord Local Reuse Authority (LRA) and master developer Brookfield Properties have completed the process of drafting a proposed Term Sheet for the redevelopment of the former Concord Naval Weapons Station.

The consideration of the Brookfield Term Sheet by the LRA, originally scheduled for Feb. 20 has been postponed at Brookfield’s request to allow the community additional time to review both the Term Sheet and staff report. The City Council is now set to consider the Term Sheet at a special meeting starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.

Please visit the Brookfield Term Sheet web page to view the documents released on Feb. 15, 2024.

Registration Opens for Concord Preschool Program March 1

Concord Recreation Services is pleased to announce that registration for the Concord Preschool Program for the upcoming school year will open on Friday, March 1 at 10 a.m.

The Concord Preschool Program provides an enriching curriculum specifically designed to prepare children for kindergarten. Teachers focus on play-based learning, allowing students the opportunity to explore and discover the world around them. We also focus on community engagement, inviting special guests to visit classes throughout the year including the Concord Police Department, Contra Costa Fire Department, Concord Library, and local pediatric dentists.

Our program is a great opportunity for young students to learn and grow in a fun and engaging environment while focusing on each of the developmental domains. Classes are available for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and 4-year-olds at both Centre Concord and Baldwin Park. The Concord Preschool Program offers a schedule of 12 different classes offered between both locations, either two days per week or three days per week.

We look forward to seeing many new and familiar faces joining us in class in September. You can learn more about all that the Concord Preschool Program has to offer by visiting our website.
