Pre-approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Program Launches

Concord has officially launched its pre-approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) program to help people save time and money through the design, planning, and permitting process of building an ADU. ADUs are residential units located on an existing single- or multi-family home lot and provide complete independent living facilities.

Thanks to a grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, Concord was able to create six building code-compliant, construction-level drawings, which are now available to the public at no cost. Of the six designs, they include different studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedrooms layouts that range from approximately 200 to 900 square feet. The designs also have multiple architectural styles commonly found in Concord.

Using the pre-approved plans saves residents the costs of hiring a design professional to prepare drawings and reduces the plan check fees associated with the issuance of a building permit. It also significantly reduces the time it takes to obtain a building permit, as complete applications with pre-approved plans can be approved within as few as five days.

To learn more about the ADU program and view floor plans/elevations, site plan templates, and full drawing sets, please visit www.cityofconcord.org/ADUs.
