CORE Team Continues to Help Unsheltered Residents | |
|
Concord's full-time Coordinated Outreach, Referral and Engagement (CORE) team - contracted through Contra Costa County - continues to make a positive impact in the community. In April, CORE was able to assist four individuals in finding stable exits from the streets.
In one case, a 63-year-old man and Concord native, had been in several of the Contra Costa Community Services due to medical, mental health, and substance abuse issues. In April, he was admitted to the Philip Dorn Respite Center, and as of May is continuing his treatment and housing plan at the Concord Shelter.
In another case, an 86-year-old mother and her 61-year-old son had been living in Concord for over 40 years. He had been taking care of his mother since her previous rental had been sold by the property owners, and they have been living in an RV at various parking lots. In April, CORE was able to find them a trailer park in Bethel Island where they currently live.
Additionally, an unhoused 58-year-old woman has been in contact with CORE Outreach since 2016 as she had been battling homelessness and alcohol abuse for several years. Recently she begun seeking help for her addiction. During detox, she was admitted to a respite center and, after completion, she will be transferred to 5 Keys Housings Program in Alameda County to continue her recovery.
