FIRE STATION 39 GROUNDBREAKING | |
The City of Largo held a groundbreaking ceremony at a new location and improved facility for Fire Station 39 on Tuesday, April 16, at 10am. City officials joined the project architect, Wannemacher Jensen Architects, and contractor, Wharton-Smith, Inc., for a brief ceremony marking the commencement of the project. Following brief remarks from City and County leadership, key stakeholders held a formal throwing of dirt at the project site.
The groundbreaking marks the start of multiple fire station reconstruction projects in Largo, emphasizing a commitment to top-tier emergency response, public service, and infrastructure optimization. The new 10,440-square-foot station features upgraded living quarters meeting modern standards, sustainability elements like solar panels and EV charging, individual dorms for eight team members, three large apparatus bays, a day room, fitness center, and increased storage. Opening in Spring 2025, Fire Station 39 will serve Largo and nearby areas.

REBUILD FLORIDA HOUSING REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT PROGRAM | |
On April 2, Florida Commerce announced the Rebuild Florida program that connects eligible Floridians with disaster recovery funding that prioritizes the most impacted communities and the most vulnerable low-income individuals, including the elderly, those with disabilities, and families with young children. There are 542 million dollars available through the Rebuild Florida Housing Repair and Replacement Program for Hurricane Ian Recovery to repair or replace Hurricane Ian-damaged homes, including mobile homes.

LARGO CIVIC ACCESS PORTAL | |
Introducing Largo Civic Access Portal: City of Largo's All-in-One Permitting and Licensing Solution | |
The City of Largo is excited to announce the Largo Civic Access Portal (LCAP), a new permitting and licensing software platform to launch this summer. LCAP is designed for homeowners, businesses, contractors, engineers, and architects, offering all applicants a seamless and user-friendly experience.
The City of Largo is committed to enhancing user experience and efficiency by transitioning to a more advanced and intuitive software platform. With LCAP, applying for the following will be faster and easier:
- Business tax receipts (BTRs)
- Special event permits
- Development review approvals, including small-scale and full-scale applications
- Site plan approvals
Users will also be able to request building and engineering inspections, pre-application and pre-construction meetings with ease.
To support users in transitioning to the new system, the official start date will be announced soon. At go live for the new system, the City will provide detailed instructions on how to set up an LCAP account. A help center will be set up in the lobby of the Building Division at City Hall to assist users with creating an account in the new system.
Users are encouraged to stay tuned to Largo.com and LargoToday, weekly eNews updates from the City Manager, for instructions on how to set up an LCAP account once the platform is live.

PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURE OF CENTRAL PARK DRIVE STARTING APRIL 19 FOR MURAL UPDATE | |
A portion of Central Park Drive will be closed to through traffic Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 28 for the beautification of the Central Park Drive crosswalk with a new street mural. The City of Largo partnered with Creative Pinellas to identify a local artist, and a review panel selected artist Emily Tayman.
Central Park Drive will be closed to all through traffic between East Bay and 8th Ave while the artist is painting. All public parking lots and sidewalks will remain open on either side of Central Park Drive.
Largo Public Library, Central Park Performing Arts Center, and Largo Central Park will remain open for regular hours and regular programing during this time. Public access to the library parking lot is available from 8th Ave only.

Largo ShredFest, held on Saturday, April 13, was a major success, with over 775 vehicles participating. This easy, drive-through event allowed residents to bring up to five boxes of documents for free and secure on-site shredding at the Starkey Road Recycling Center. Mark your calendars for the next ShredFest on Saturday, October 19, from 9am-12pm. | | |
Earlier this week, as part of the Safe Streets For All program, residents and community stakeholders participated in a walk audit and community meeting about the safety of Seminole Blvd between Ulmerton Road and 8th Avenue SE. There is still time to share your feedback in an online survey or interactive map.

IMPROVEMENTS TO LIFT STATION 26 |
Do you live near Lancaster Drive and Doncaster Road? The City of Largo is hosting two neighborhood information meetings about the relocation of Lift Station 26, a vital component of the sanitary sewer system. The relocation from its current spot at Lancaster Dr. and Doncaster Rd. to a safer area outside flood zones aims to bolster overall system resilience and reliability.
The project also includes installing an emergency generator and solar panels for backup power, ensuring continuous operation in all weather conditions.

EL DIA DEL NINO EVENTO CULTURAL |
A new co-sponsored event is scheduled at Largo Central Park on Sunday, April 28, from 1-7pm. The Mercado Cultural extends a warm welcome to all attendees! This celebration marks "El Dia del Nino." It embraces Latino multi-cultural heritage, offering an immersive experience of the culture through local vendors, artisans, craft-makers, and performances of folklore arts.
The event promises an array of attractions, including food trucks serving delectable Latin cuisine and music groups delivering the vibrant rhythms of Hispanic culture, sure to get hips swaying and feet tapping. Attendees are encouraged to partake in the festivities, which include piñatas, games, and prizes suitable for the entire family. Children hailed as blessings and the future, are at the heart of this celebration.
Entertainment highlights feature performances by Mango Rock Pops, Trio Potencia Huasteca, and Alianza MX, along with children's folklore groups such as Sones de México, Mahetzi, and El Shaddai. Additionally, demonstrations from local youth leagues will be showcased, including MexiLakes Basketball, Felinos United Soccer, and Jaguars Basketball Youth Club.
The Mercado Cultural distinguishes itself as more than just a community event; it offers a unique and enriching experience for all who attend.

Construction of Horizon West Bay which includes Largo City Hall is underway. As of April 19, 2024, work continues on the following tasks:

- Garage and City Hall Interior Plumbing
- Garage and City Hall Fire Protection
- Electrical Work at Garage and City Hall
- City Hall Interior Walls
- City Hall and Garage Mechanical Work
- Roofing at City Hall
- Installation of Exterior Glass
- Installation of Architectural Precast at City Hall
Road closures for the duration of the project include:
- 4th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
- 5th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
- 1st Avenue NW, between 4th Street to 5th Street
