MERIDY SEMONES NAMED LARGO'S NEW ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER

On May 7, the Largo City Commission voted to approve Meridy Semones for the newest role of Assistant City Manager. City Manager John Curp announced Semones' acceptance of the role, emphasizing its critical importance in advancing the organization's high-performance agenda through initiatives including a performance and data management program and updating the City's 2017 Strategic Plan.


With over 15 years of leadership experience in Team Largo and a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Semones brings a wealth of expertise as a Certified Public Finance Officer and Change Management Practitioner. Her leadership has been instrumental in key endeavors such as developing the City's first strategic plan, adopting a high-performance work culture, implementing Largo’s Environmental Action Plan (LEAP), championing a comprehensive organizational training program, and facilitating executive leadership development.


Semones' appointment signifies a proactive approach to providing regional leadership, addressing current community challenges, and driving organizational growth and performance. Her leadership will be pivotal in ensuring alignment with the community's expectations as the organization navigates the evolving landscape and continues its journey toward building the community of choice in Tampa Bay. CELEBRATING PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK

The City of Largo is committed to building the community of choice in Tampa Bay. Team members across 12 departments deliver superior services every day to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Largo. It is their dedication and commitment that serves our organization's mission. In recognition of the officers, technicians, drivers, planners, and leaders at all levels of Team Largo, a luncheon was held at the Central Park Performing Arts Center to celebrate Public Service Recognition Week. Team members enjoyed activities and lunch served by City Commissioners, Administration, and Department Directors as a thank-you for their efforts that make our community thrive.

LARGO RECOGNIZED AT RESILIENCE SUMMIT

The City of Largo was proud to have team members participate in the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council’s 2024 Regional Resilience Summit. Sheridan Gemuendt, Largo's Sustainability and Resilience Administrator, joined a panel discussion about greenhouse gas inventories and all that Largo is doing to improve our natural environment and community well-being.

Largo's Engineering Services and Environmental Services Department also received the Future of the Region Award for their leadership and excellence in completing the Wastewater Biological Treatment Improvements Project. This $58 million wastewater project made necessary updates to the plant, significantly reducing the amount of nitrogen discharged into Old Tampa Bay.

SAFETY ALONG CLEARWATER-LARGO ROAD

The City of Largo, in partnership with Forward Pinellas and Pinellas County, plans to improve Clearwater-Largo Road between 8th Avenue SW to West Bay Drive. This project aims to improve walkability, safety, and connectivity.

  • 1st Floor Concrete Slabs at City Hall


Road closures for the duration of the project include:


  • 4th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
  • 5th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
  • 1st Avenue NW, between 4th Street to 5th Street
