2023 READY-SET-PROTECT WEBINAR SERIES
|
|
Pinellas County Emergency Management and affiliated community partners are hosting a webinar series to discuss preparation, evacuation zones, emergency shelter options, special needs, and insurance considerations, providing information and resources to assist the community in best preparing for hurricane season.
The first webinar is on February 23, 2023, from 1-2 pm and focuses on mobile home communities.

LARGO POLICE HOLD FBI TRAINING
|
|
The Largo Police Department had the pleasure to host the FBI-LEEDA Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) training from February 6 - February 10. This class was built especially for supervisors and middle managers with the goal of enhancing their leadership competencies. The instructors were senior law enforcement leaders who lead the class through personality diagnostics, leadership case studies, mentoring, development, performance management, risk management and credibility. We hosted 45 students from agencies around the state of Florida and out of state attendees from Ohio, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Washington DC, Texas, South Carolina, and Alaska. The Largo Police Department looks forward to hosting the next two courses as part of the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy later this year.

WWBA RADIO TRANSMISSION TOWER APPROVED
|
|
On February 14, the Planning & Development Services Division of the City of Largo's Community Development Department approved a small-scale review case number SPR222-027 for WWBA Radio Transmission Towers located at 800 8th Avenue SE. The property is located on the south side of 800 8th Avenue SE and west of Donegan Road. This approval allows the applicant to construct two (2) new free-standing, non-stealth, radio transmission towers (190 feet in height), a 675 sq. ft. building (12 feet in height), landscape buffers, and associated infrastructure on a property. Genesis Communications of Tampa Bay has five (5) existing radio towers and a 3,200 sq. ft. building on site which will be demolished as part of this project. This site is designated as Industrial Limited (IL) on the Future Land Use Map.

HORIZON WEST BAY CONSTRUCTION
|

Construction of Horizon West Bay which will include Largo City Hall is underway. As of February 15, 2023, work continues on the following tasks:
- Sitework
- Concrete Foundations
- Underground Utilities
Road closures for the duration of the project include:
- 4th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
- 5th Street NW, between West Bay to 1st Ave NW
- 1st Avenue NW, between 4th Street to 5th Street
Largo’s new mixed-use complex, Horizon West Bay, sets a vision to attract new restaurants, cafes, and retailers to Downtown Largo. CITY FACILITIES CLOSURE REMINDER
|
|
As a reminder, Largo facilities including City Hall, recreation facilities, Largo Public Library, and the Central Park Performing Arts Center will be closed on Monday, February 20 in honor of Presidents' Day. The Largo Golf Course will be open regular hours.
There will be NO residential collection on Monday, February 20. Monday residential collection moves to Tuesday, and Tuesday residential collection moves to Wednesday. For commercial collections, there is no change to the schedule. To view the holiday collection schedule, visit Largo.com/MyTrashDay.
