May 2023 Eureka Chamber of Commerce Newsletter
Your Chamber Working for You

Wait… what happened to April? It’s been a busy month since our last newsletter! Here are a couple of highlights:

Member Survey
124 of our member businesses completed the survey - we surpassed the response rate from previous surveys, so a big THANK YOU is in order! We will be releasing the data over the coming months through various means, including op-eds, reports to various groups, and more. A summary of highlights will be released to the Chamber community in June. The thousands of data points you shared will also directly inform our 5 year strategic plan, currently under development.

City of Eureka Strategic Visioning
May 5-6 I observed the City of Eureka’s strategic visioning process. City Council, the Mayor, the City Manager and various department heads met to set priorities for the coming two years. I learned quite a lot, and was able to talk with many of them during breaks and during a public comment session. The new strategic vision will be presented at the June 6 City Council meeting. I encourage you to review it when it’s made available, and show up on June 6 to share your perspective.

Parking
I attended and spoke on behalf of our Chamber at the May 9 Transportation Commission meeting about changes to parking time limits and metering in Old Town and Downtown (which is separate from the proposed conversion of parking lots to housing in that area). During that meeting, I saw the Commission recommend, in real time, amendments to the proposed plan directly in response to requests from businesses in affected areas. LESSON: Take the time to attend public meetings and speak up!

The months ahead promise more opportunities to work on your behalf, to learn together, and to connect as a Chamber community (can’t wait until our first-ever Summer Fun Family Mixer on July 20!).

Thanks again for sharing your perspectives and needs with us. We hear you!

May you thrive.
