Living Faith: Our Lady of the Lake Deanery
Sandusky St. Mary parishioner takes to heart Mother Teresa's call

Karen Bush
Karen Bush, left, inspires her friend Ginny Wilson with her compassionate spirit. The women, parishioners at Sandusky St. Mary, volunteer together at Care and Share of Erie County.
SANDUSKY-"It is not enough for us to say: 'I love God,' but I also have to love my neighbor."

Mother Teresa spoke these words. She also lived them.

So does Karen Bush, a Sandusky St. Mary parishioner who admires Mother Teresa and who has served the poor in her community for more than a decade.

When Mrs. Bush's husband, Ray, retired in 2002, the couple moved from Mansfield to Marblehead in Ottawa County. He told his wife, "I want to do what you do."

What she did was volunteer. She was a den mother, helped out in a nursing home and organized food drives.

Fr. Miller, associate pastor of St. Peter, says the "vocations basketball game" gives priests and seminarians a chance to spend time with young people and to speak with them about God in a fun, "non-church" atmosphere.
