"Pilot Factory" Kicks Into Overtime in August
We're having a record summer turning out new solo pilots and new private pilots. Here are the latest:
Tyler Unertl
Private Pilots Tyler Unertl of Mosinee, and Jake Lasee of Mosinee passed their checkrides on the same day, August 14th. Both trained with CFIs Steve Gering and Gil Buettner.
Jake Lasee
Ryan Yde of Wausau, below, became a private pilot on August 17th,100 days after beginning his training.
New solo pilots in August included Ryan Yde, above, on August 5th, and Matt Reuter, below, on August 6th.
Run The Runway
Looking for a unique foot race? On October 1st at 3:00 pm, runners will be able to compete in a 5K race at the Wausau Downtown Airport. Check out the details on the poster below, and go here to register.

AOPA AV8RS Scholarships
$15,000 in scholarships
Available for primary flight training expenses, attendance at an aviation or aerospace camp, pursuit of an aviation/aerospace degree or certification from an aviation technical program.
In 2003, the Archie Towle Aviation Scholarship went to Logan Pittsley of Wausau.
Logan received his Private Pilot rating at Wausau Downtown Airport and a high performance endorsement at Stevens Point.
He went on to attend Mankato State University for additional ratings:
-Commercial
-Ground instructor and advanced ground instructor.
-Single engine, multi-engine and instrument instructor
Most recently Logan has been flying as a First Officer for Expressjet Airlines, based in Chicago.

Chicken Drop Update
July's Chicken Drop contest was won by Wyatt Chmiel.
You can join the fun. Just rent a rubber chicken or two and try to drop it out of an airplane into a barrel from 100 feet above the ground.
Monthly prizes until Wausau Flying Service begins its 25th year in business this fall.

Military pilots flying inside Military Operations Areas are exempted from the provisions of 91.303(c) and (d) which prohibits aerobatic flight within Class D and Class E surface areas, and within Federal airways. The Department of Defense has been authorized to operate at indicated airspeeds in excess of 250 knots below 10,000 feet within active MOAs.
