There is still time to apply for the 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program to fund the replacement of non-zero-emission Class 6 and Class 7 heavy-duty vehicles with zero-emission vehicles. The deadline to apply is July 25, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Late applications will NOT be accepted, so be sure to submit your application before the deadline! Eligible applicants should make critical connections with their utility providers, school boards, and other project partners as part of their preparation to submit their online application.

Eligible applicants to the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program include:

  1. States, including U.S. territories;
  2. Municipalities, including public school districts;
  3. Indian Tribes; and

The EPA will offer funding to cover the incremental cost of replacing existing non-zero-emission Class 6/7 heavy-duty vehicles with new qualifying zero-emission vehicles. The CHDV grant program will allocate approximately 70% of the total funding through a School Bus Sub-Program and approximately 30% of the total funding through a Vocational Vehicles Sub-Program that includes refuse haulers/dump trucks, transit buses, delivery trucks, utility trucks, bucket trucks, box trucks, etc. There is also a set-aside across both sub-programs for eligible Tribal and territory applicants.

In addition to funding replacement of class 6/7 zero-emission vehicles, the CHDV Grant Program also offers funding for:

  • The purchase and installation of fueling infrastructure that will support replacement vehicles.
  • Driver/mechanic training related to the maintenance and operation of new vehicles, supporting fueling infrastructure, and vehicle warranties.
  • Costs directly related to the implementation, management, and oversight of the project, including recipient and subrecipient personnel and benefits, contractual services, consulting on vehicle deployments, travel, supplies, and indirect costs.
