The Perfect Cosmopolitan.
There once was a bar in NYC called "Passerby" where a mixologist named Toby Cecchini allegedly started the Cosmo that "Sex and The City" made famous.  This week we'll go back to the "Old Days" with "the S and C Girl's" with the Perfect Cosmo!  Come in watch the sunset and enjoy a Perfect Cosmo with Christine and remember the crazy ladies of S & C.

Wine Notes

Khamr:  Khamr is Arabic for wine.  It's curious that wine today is prohibited in the very cradles of its origin--Iraq and Iran.  The prohibition, dating from the time of the prophet Muhammad in the seventh century A.D., is assumed to stem from the Koran, Sura V, verses 90-91:  "Believers, wine and games of chance, idols and divining arrows are abominations devised by Satan.  Avoid them so that you may prosper.  Satan seeks to stir up enmity and hatred among you by means of wine and gambling and to keep you from the remembrance of Allah and from your prayers."  Karen MacNeil

Spaceship Earth. We are all crew."

News from
The Duck Restaurant

I wish I could say I'm looking at sunshine this morning but alas that's not to be today, maybe some occasional sunshine but we'll have to wait until tomorrow for the sun.  Tomorrow the weather really starts a change with sunshine, warmer with everyday the temperature increasing to the mid-80's through next Thursday.  It's going to be a great weekend and week!  Come to The Lake and enjoy!

The Osage Beach Farmer's market has it's opening day Saturday morning starting at 9am and going through 1pm.  I'll be there since The Duck is one of their sponsors and hope to see some of you, too.  Check out their website at OBFarmersMkt.  There'll be many fun things to do and eat: face painting, grilled burgers, artisan crafts and a gift basket raffle  (including Duck gift certificates).  Some of the vendors to look for The Local Motive... CC Highland Ranch... Osage Prairie Bison... Bear Hollow Farms... Divine Scents Soap Company... At Wick's End... still confirming more!

What else is going on at The Lake to keep you involved in our great Lake community,  there's plenty this weekend!  First The 26th Annual Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals starts Friday and runs through Sunday.  All along the strip you'll find a unique show for all makes, models and years of cars, trucks, and motorcycles.  Vehicles from across the US travel to the Bagnell Dam Strip to show off their street style.  Free and fun for all!  Saturday also brings the 17th Annual Spring Harbor Hop the kick-off for the Lake's boating season.  Dozens of restaurants and marinas will be set up as checkpoints for this annual poker run.  Anyone can play and there are prizes!  Chocolate for Charity Blue Jean Ball is Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30 at Cannon Smoked Saloon on Hyw 5 on the westside.  Sample amazing chocolate creations for a cause: The Sharing & Caring Foundation.  Call 573-374-2600 for info.  The Camden County Museum in Linn Creek will have their Spring Craft Show Saturday from 9am to 3pm with Lunch available for a donation.  If you still need a garage sale fix even after last weekends Horseshoe Bend GS head to Laurie for the Spring 27 Acre Yard Sale at the Laurie Fairgrounds or to Eldon for their City Wide Garage Sale from 8am to 4pm, follow the signs.   Sunday from 1 to 3pm at the country Club Hotel and Spa there's a unique Benefit: "A Quarter Auction Fundraiser".  Join the Professional and Business Women of The Lake for a Day of "FUN-draising and socializing.  Bring your quarter to bid on great times from local businesses.  Proceeds benefit the PBW  Scholarship program and local charities.   On Sunday at the Lake Ozark Christian Church the Lake Area Chorale will again present their Spring Concert from 3 to 5pm.    Much to do!

While you're here why not drop in at The Duck for a Cosmo or bottle of great wine, we've just added Kosta Brown Pinot Noir to our list, highly allocated and sought after.  Hopefully you know our wine list is the only current Wine Spectator Award winning list at The Lake.   Of course a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Phil and Chef Dominic is not to be missed.

We'd love to see  and serve you!

Chef's Features
Starting Friday

Chili Glazed Halibut with Avocado, Tomatillo Salsa.   Chef Phil is going a little spicy on this grilled Fresh Halibut we've just brought in. He'll make a chipotle orange glaze then accent that with a Salsa of avocado, roasted tomatillo, local corn (we froze from last year's harvest) and black beans.  A very tasty combination and a little different take on Halibut.
Wine Suggestion: 2011 Hoepler Gruener Veltliner (Austria).
From the light, white national grape of Austria, you'll still get lots of flavor.  This is dry, and goes great with seafood.

Mediterranean Paella.
Chef Phil spent some time cooking at the Royal Palms Resort in Phoenix and this was one of his favorites from that time.  He'll take saffron flavored rice and combine it with chicken, shrimp, mussels, clams and spicy Spanish style choriso (made by STL's own Volpi) to make his own version of this classic Spanish Dish.
Wine Suggestion: 2011 Bodegas Volver Tempranillo (La Mancha, Spain).  WS: "This bold, modern red delivers a mouthful of ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum fruit, with accents of toast and chocolate.  The ripe tannins are well-integrated, featuring enough acidity for freshness."  100% Tempranillo.
