Our Mission:
Supporting lifelong faith formation in the home and congregation.

From the President's Desk

Dear Friends,

As many of us are packing for the Youth Gathering in Houston, I thought we would introduce you to one of the many people you will find in the Interactive Learning Center.

Pastor Glen VanderKloot is a member of the ELCA Prayer and Revival Team. He is just one of the team members you will find at the Prayer Station during the Gathering.

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, get to know Pastor Glen, and be sure to tell your youth to stop by and say hello while in Houston.

(Be sure to check out a variety of faith practices resources here)

Blessings on your journey,

Pastor Juli Lejman-Guy, President
Christian Education Network of the ELCA

6 Questions and a Cup of Coffee with... Pastor Glen VanderKloot

1. Can you describe your call to ministry?

When I was in Sunday School grade 3 or 4, students were allowed to pick the closing song. I always raised my hand asking for "I Love to Tell the Story." One Sunday my teacher said to me, "Glen, never stop loving to tell the story of Jesus and his love." That was the beginning of a sense of call. In confirmation our Vicar pulled me aside and said "Glen you should think about becoming a pastor." That confirmed it for me.

2. What is the best part of your ministry now?

I help out at a very small church that will never have a resident pastor. The twenty people that are there (avg age mid 80s) have a deep abiding faith. I love hearing their stories. I also mentor a young pastor and am a member of the ELCA Renewal/Prayer/Revival and Faith Practices Team.

3. What is one fact about you that would surprise people?

I was the class clown.

4. What are three things Christian educators need to keep their eye on?

1)  Are we talking about Jesus?
2)  Making sure we do not turn the Gospel into good works.
3)  Make the Bible relevant to kids' lives today

5. What are some of your favorite resources?

Anything by John Maxwell (leadership), Bill Hybels (outreach) and Terry Teykl (prayer) and books by Bill White

6. How can we pray for you?

That God uses us to impact the lives of youth and chaperones at the Youth Gathering for Jesus.
