Say Hello to an Old Friend !

TAP has decided what better way of remembering the man that started it all  then to have his likeness imprinted on the TAP logo and to make this the official  logo to represent the great company and league he started in 1989. You will slowly see the old logo phased out as this one will be brought in permanently.  The silhouette was taken from the picture that is posted below at our nationals in November 2013 in Chicago while Loyd Schonter was looking down on the event. Just  a few weeks later on New Years eve, Loyd passed away from a massive heart attack.  While other leagues have a logo with a cue in hand or simply letters for their name, this logo has a very deep and personal meaning. There is a old saying that goes "The cemetery is full of irreplaceable people." Loyd Schonter was the exception to this rule and with that being said, Loyd lives on in this logo.

Special thanks to Clarke Parham for coming up with this brilliant design. He is married to Loyd's  niece, Kim, who is the daughter of Loyd's brother, Chuck. As Loyd always liked to say...Atta Boy Clarke!

TAP and the WPBA

TAP and the WPBA have come to a mutual agreement to allow one
l ady TAP member to have one spot in the WPBA U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship that will be at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, Pa. next March 2017. Local TAP licensees can qualify players locally to enter a ladies event at our TAP nationals this November where we will crown a TAP ladies champion. Due to casino restrictions, entrants must be 21 years of age. Check with your local TAP licensee for more info.

Some areas are already promoting it with such names as "Queen of the Castle" in Keystone TAP and Laurel Highlands dubbed theirs the "Queen of the Green" while up on Lake Erie the North Coast TAP league is going by the "Queen of the Coast". What is your area going to call it?

Ladies....Just another reason why you should be playing in TAP.

Up Close and Personal with
John Sisco TAP #19814

It takes a lot of guts to quit your job and follow your dream but one TAP member did exactly that and the rewards could be massive for him. John Sisco, a TAP member in Western Pa. quit his day job as a salesman for Sprint, rebuilt an old bar into a recording studio and his new career was born with Break'N Recordz in early 2016. John's love of his music and his hard work is finally paying off. He was featured on the BET network in 2013 and his songs are now getting in the rotation on Sirius XM radio. He has been in contact with some major record labels and recently Universal, Sony and Def Jam have requested meetings with John and at this time it looks like he will be signing a deal with Def Jam. We will post further updates on this in a future newsletter. With TAP, John still  makes time to compete on a weekly basis in Laurel Highlands TAP on his team, Legends of Southmont Gardens, with family members Ryan and Brian as well as the rest of his friends all the while holding a solid 5 handicap. Since opening his studio he has been putting in 12 hour days or more recording new talent. With all of these hours, anyone would need a few minutes of  down time, so John's answer to that was of course, a pool table. What kind of decent recording studio would it be anyway without a table in there to get some practice in and the creative juices flowing?

We at TAP wish John all the best in achieving your goals and chasing your dreams and as they say here in Western Pa......
"Make the 814 proud."
Update on John Yankowski

A quick update on our featured TAP member last month, John Yankowski from the Cleveland,Ohio area. I recently had the pleasure of meeting John at the TAP sales booth at the Super Billiards Expo this year. He thanked me over and over about the article we did on him in the last newsletter pertaining to his bike accident and his recovery after losing a leg from that accident along with his desires to get back on the table and  back in the seat of a bike. But in reality, it was really my pleasure to recognize this man's love for the game and his desire to keep playing pool. We are happy to give you this update on John and to say that.....It's hard to keep a good man down and away from the road. At the Rally, John went a respectable 3-1 as a 5 handicap. Being a biker myself, I know the feeling about wanting to be on the road. So here is John with his new set up. Keep the wind in your
hair and the bugs out of your teeth, John!  And don't forget to..TAP ON!

TAP Nationals 2018

A huge shout out once again to our service                                      personal......... Thank you!

 Hello fellow TAP members,

As Summer months are now coming into full swing and many of our members are taking a break to enjoy the warmer days but just as many are still on the green felt improving their game and now trying to qualify for the 2017 TAP nationals. So we plan on taking this time to look back on the past 6 months and what TAP is planning for the rest of 2016 and beyond. If your taking the Summer off and hitting the golf course, camping or just plain enjoying the warm weather, we hope you enjoy your break from the tables. And if your still out there beating those balls, we wish you good luck and good rolls.

Let's get started with another promised
mega issue and don't forget to .....TAP ON!

                                                    Celeste Schonter
                                                         TAP CEO
      The Rally at the SBE

Once again another sold out Rally at the Super Billiards Expo is history and what a event it was.TAP launched new upgrades to Pool-Net which proved to be a huge hit with the players and staff alike. While other leagues pay for outside vendors to keep track of matches, tables, times and results all the while paying up to $1 per player for this service, TAP decided to implement features into Pool-Net at zero cost to our members. This made the event run much smoother and since TAP doesn't have this added cost we can roll that saved money into the prize fund for our members. Below are some example screen shots of what our module can do that no other league has built into their system and it is free to our members. As you will see it posts match times, table numbers, results, pay outs and as the event progresses you can see it  update round by round. Players loved the fact that they could open their smart phones and keep up with the results and then know what table they were on for their next match from their hotel rooms or while they were eating lunch. And this is just the first phase that TAP has planned. More programming is coming. As a result of these updates here is some of the feedback that came in shortly after the Rally.

"Just a HUGE shout out to all the TAP personnel and directors . I have played in MANY many TAP events for many, many years. I have to say, by far this was the best and most well run event that has taken place . All the matches went off on time and all the players knew exactly where to go and what tables they were on . So much work and time and effort goes into making the event take place and credit needs to be given where it is due . To everyone in TAP, thank you for a great tournament this year at Rally 2016 . Look forward to seeing you at nationals!"... Carol C.

.......and if you didn't have a smart phone you could check the brackets out on two lap top controlled big screens.

1992 U.S. Open 9 Ball Champ Tommy Kennedy Plays and Slays them at the TAP Sales Booth!

This was Tommy's first year in the TAP sales booth (although he was at TAP's nationals in Nashville last November) and what a hit he was with the TAP members as well as with the general public at the SBE. Tommy took time between his 10 ball pro event matches (which he finished in a very respectable 5/6th place) to take on all challengers. Tommy played 63 games of either 8 or 9 ball thru out the weekend at the Expo while spotting the players the break and he still won a amazing 58 of those games! Win or lose challengers got a tee shirt autographed by Tommy. What a true gentleman to the sport of pool and we are happy to have him be part of the TAP family. I f you didn't get a chance to play him,he will be at TAP's nationals in Charleston S.C. in November. So practice up because your going to need to dig deep to say you "TKO-ed the U.S. Open champ. And yes, I got one of those prized shirts from Tommy.  Ahh C'mon Tommy! I had to do it. :)

Introducing TAP's New Director of Marketing

At the annual licensee meeting at the SBE, Chuck Schonter announced TAP's new head of marketing, Clint Schonter. Clint has taken over responsibilities of the marketing TAP and will be bringing new and fresh ideas to the company. He already is in the process of revamping the TAP website as well as the online store. These should be relaunched very shortly.

Below is a brief message Clint submitted.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank  my Aunt Celeste and her brother, my Uncle Chuck Schonter for letting me be part of my Uncle Loyd's dream.  I am looking forward to working with the entire TAP family and learning as much as I can along the way.  TAP is the LEADING EDGE league in the industry and we are going to keep it that way.  As marketing director I will continue to build the TAP brand that we are all proud of and give you all the tools to do the same.  Thanks again for this opportunity and I can't wait to see everyone at nationals in Charleston, S.C.  TAP ON!"

TAP's Helping Hands

Not everything in TAP is about pool. TAP leagues help many of their players and families. Here is a great example of this.

TAP CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION

On June 4, 2016 we were scheduled to hold one of our specialty tournaments. Two weeks prior we had found out that one of our members, Racheal Harrison, had learned of some very disheartening news. Her daughter, Emma, was diagnosed with leukemia. Emma is 3-years-old and after we heard the news we knew we wanted to do something to help. With Racheal unable to work and knowing the high cost medical care we decided to use our tournament as an avenue to help raise money for the family. With the permission of the family we partnered with the host location, Brews and Cues, and combined our efforts into raising money for the family. We decided that all tournament fees collected will be donated, held a 50/50 and had a donation box at the bar with flyers.

Our players, the staff at Brews and Cues and patrons all came up big for us. We sold out of all of the 50/50 tickets, took in a significant amount of donations and had a fantastic day of pool. In all we will be making a donation of over $2,000 to the family. It was incredible to see all of the generosity that was shown by everyone.

A special thanks goes out to our host location, Brews and Cues. This is a new establishment that has been open for just one month. They provided us a great venue for this event, helped promote, donated from their own pockets and were very instrumental in this being a complete success. We are very grateful for their hard work and dedication. Thanks again Tony and Suzy!!!!

Throw Back To The Year 2000

Here is a old newspaper clipping taken from a article on August 18, 2000 showing founder Loyd Schonter at his desk. Notice the league was going by it's original name at the time, The Association for P.O.O.L. which was the original name and how the company became known shortly after by the acronym of TAP.

The next TAP newsletter will not be out until after Labor Day so if there is something you would like to see or add, please let us know and we will see what we can do. You can email us at tappool@aol.com  As Loyd always said..."By a player and for the player." TAP listens to our members.

Here is wishing everyone a safe and pleasant Summer.

TAP ON!
