Dental Dog
Welcome to another edition of Dental Dog! Last month I shared how I got in trouble for barking at the mail lady (just saying "hello"!), and since then I've been on my mom's radar. Even though I see myself as extroverted and entertaining, I guess that's not a universal view (mail -meanie!). I think I'm perfect, but my mom keeps reminding me about my exuberance that day ... I say let's move on! Anywoof ... I know I can face the mail monsters with more restraint when I've had a good night's sleep! Hard to do with that bed hog, Becca, but necessary if I'm going to keep it together when that truck rumbles up every morning. Those folks are more dangerous than grizzly bears ... they carry mace in their pants and can't wait to use it! Mom keeps reminding me that the first step to improving my behavior begins with getting a good night's sleep. I couldn't belive it's actually more important than my favorite thing in the world ... treats! Don't believe me? Check out what the experts say in Sleep Is More Important Than Food in Harvard Business Review! Now if I can just get Becca to sleep on the floor, life will be perfect. | |

Meet ... Olivia Straine
Olivia Straine is not only Kerry Straine's wife, but the Vice President of Straine Consulting and a driving force behind the success of Straine. Olivia has a passion for learning and teaching, and devotes much of her time to researching concepts that will educate and inspire the Straine team, our clients, and our alliance partners. Although Olivia has Degrees in Psychology and Communication, when she discovered the DISC methodology, she recognized the value and began incorporating its concepts into Straine's "best practices" strategies. This component of Straine's business model continues to have a significant impact on our team, clients and alliance partners. DISC is very simply the "universal language of observable human behavior."
Olivia believes by learning how people behave in a variety of settings, we can better understand each other and therefore increase effective communication. She says, "One of the most important things we teach our clients is how to appreciate every behavioral style. One must appreciate the value in others before the doorway of communication can open. It's important to understand that behavior is neutral ... it doesn't indicate intelligence or competence. It's easier to collaborate with others when you separate behavior from values. It's essential that we seek to understand each other and put energy and empathy into every encounter. Learning how to adapt to every behavioral style is a powerful skill that is an essential ingredient for success."
As a business owner, Olivia understands first hand the challenges our clients face. When making decisions, she leads with the mission of the company ... that Straine exists for one reason ... and that is to serve our clients. "Being a business owner is very challenging, which is the reason 80% of all small businesses fail within the first year. Kerry and I know that it is the ultimate balancing act of combining technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills. Our goal is to help our clients master the managerial and entrepreneurial duties so they can focus on their technical skills."
Olivia is the perfect example of an effective leader. She's an executive who is honest, inspiring, and results driven. It's safe to say that Straine wouldn't be the company it is today without her. On a personal level, Olivia also exemplifies the proverb "Behind every great man, there's a great woman!" |
