Sunday, July 14, Reception after 10:00 am service

Sunday, July 14th will be Rev. Christina’s last Sunday with us at St. James, before she takes up her new position at St. Andrew’s, Encinitas later this Summer. We will be able to wish her a fond farewell and say “Thank You” for her time and ministry with us all at a Shrimp Boil Potluck Reception after the 10am service on July 14th. We’ll take care of the Shrimp Boil, and all are welcome to contibute a side dish. Sign-ups will be available by emailing walter@sjbts.org.

If you would like to offer a gift in honor of her time with us, she is accepting monetary gifts in support of her pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) via check (made out to Christina Miller) or venmo @Christina-Miller-51.


Women’s Clothing Pricing Party Anyone?

New Presiding Bishop Elected!

Our new Presiding Bishop was chosen on the first ballot. Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe is the bishop of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Bishop Susan Brown Snook wrote an article about her participation in the election process and some information on the next leader of the Episcopal Church. You can read the article HERE.

92nd White Elephant Sale TEA at the Rectory

Wednesday, July 17th, 3:00 pm

This annual pre-sale tradition is quickly coming upon us. All WES past and 2024 volunteers are invited. Please come and join us to ring in the “2024 92nd White Elephant Sale” with a Tea at the Rectory. You are encouraged to bring a new or “nearly new” item (jewelry, small antiques, designer clothes, etc.) for the sale, though it is not obligatory. Just come and enjoy the comradery and tea.

Sacred Architecture of San Diego/Tijuana

Gallery hours: Wednesday – Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 pm

The exhibition will lead viewers through the major architectural movements of the twentieth century and introduce ideas and theology which have shaped sacred buildings in the region.

Curated by our very own Rev. Dr. Mark Hargreaves, whose passion for architecture just last year led to the publication of his well-

received monograph: The Sacred Architecture of Irving J. Gill.  

Admission is always free. The museum/gallery is located at 780 Prospect Street, directly across the street from St. James, in what was formerly referred to as the Wisteria Cottage.

Annual Backpack Drive for MOMS

July 21, 28, August 4

Get ready for the annual Backpack Drive for MOMS. The dates for collection are 7/21, 7/28 and 8/4. We have a goal of 125 backpacks. Backpacks will be readily available at Costco (best value), Target and Wal-Mart. If you would rather give gift cards or cash, the current cost is $25. Actual backpacks are preferred.

Noontime Organ Recital

Join us for the final noontime organ recital of the season, immediately following the Wednesday Noon Eucharist service.

The guest organist will be Kai Krakenberg, from St. Marien, Husum, Northern Germany.

Summer = VBS

July 22 - 25, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The time is here to register/volunteer for our second age-based Vacation Bible School camp. Last week’s Preschool VBS was at capacity and provided an exciting and creative time for one and all. Our Shout for Joy VBS is a diocese-wide curriculum that will take

an adventure through the Psalms! Both camps are art - based and will create a space to explore the Psalms through music, story, games, art and drama.

VBS rising 1st-5th graders: July 22-25th from 9:00 - 3:00 (with the possibility of Extended Care until 5:00)

Cost: $85/first camper, $75/each additional camper

with a cap of $175 a family. Scholarships availabl

We need campers, youth volunteers and adult volunteers!

First Choice Night!

The extremely popular First Choice Night will be Friday, Aug 23, 

5:00 - 7:00 pm. Join us for wine and light hors d'oeuvres and the chance to purchase the best of the donations. It's a good night to bring friends and enjoy top shelf shopping at St. James!

Tickets will be sold online for $15 only until Thursday, Aug. 22, or can be purchased Friday evening at the door for $20. Click HERE for details and to purchase tickets.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you have 10 minutes after a Sunday service, the women who are accepting donations for the WES in the Parish Hall would be DELIGHTED, if you could help them move a box or two. Also needed are helpers to take gathered donations to the Storage Unit. If you have a truck or large SUV and a little spare time to share after the 10am service, they could really use your help.

Donations are now being accepted for the 92nd Annual St. James White Elephant Sale. Bring your donations to the Parish Hall on Sundays from 9:30-11:30 and on all Sundays leading up to the sale. Don't Forget about Parking at The Bishop’s School

Summer is upon us - be prepared with parking options.

With the help of our friends over at The Bishop’s School, they are graciously opening their parking structure for us to use on Sunday mornings. PRIOR to parking there, you must have submitted a Waiver Form to Walter in the office. They are available with the ushers. Here is what you’ll need to know:

• The structure will be open and available only from the hours of 8:30am to 12 noon (FIRM)

• Please use the entrance on Draper Avenue to enter and exit.

• No special signage in your car or checking in with a guard will be required.
