St. Clare Updates for

April 27 - May 31, 2024

Hello St Clare,

This year marks a significant milestone in our journey together as a church family. It all started twenty-five years ago, as many of you gathered together with Fr. Scott sharing a great vision!

In two weeks, we hope to start our Project Advance campaign. This year, more than ever, we want you to consider a special gift to St. Clare’s – a gift that will be your sign of gratitude for 25 years of this amazing place and family, your family! Help us to shine and continue to spread the divine message, the Good News.

Please give joyfully to Project Advance 2024. Our team will be in the church lobby in the month of May to answer your questions or help you with your pledge. The easiest way to donate is to go online at support.rcav.org and designate our parish as the recipient. It is very easy to do. If making donation by cheque, please make it payable to Project Advance (you may send it directly to Project Advance or drop it in our church collection box).

Whether you've been with us since the beginning or have recently become a part of our church family, your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us and fulfill our mission of spreading God's love to all.

With gratitude and blessings,

Fr. Maciej

EMAIL FRAUD WARNING

The Archdiocese has received multiple reports from parishioners and priests who have fallen victim to recent Internet email phishing scams. Imposters, posing as priests and using email addresses that are similar to those of our priests, have been emailing people asking for personal donations, gift cards, and other forms of financial assistance.

Never respond to emails requesting Google Play cards, iTunes cards, or any other form of personal financial assistance, even if it appears to be from a priest, deacon, religious, parish staff or bishop. If you have any doubt, please contact the sender by other means to verify any requests.

Food for Thought . . . and for the Soul

The New Testament in a Single Sentence

"God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

The following quotation is often attributed to Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD): "God loves each one of us as if there were only one of us to love." God gives us the freedom to choose whom and what we will love.

But if You Need More . . .

All that Jesus taught, as outlined in John chapter 3 throughout His public ministry can be summed up in this short and to-the-point statement: “God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” This short teaching can be broken down into five essential truths.

from the "Laudate" app

First, the Father’s love for humanity, and specifically, for you, is a love so deep that there is no way we will ever fully understand the depths of His love.

Second, the love the Father has for us compelled Him to give us the greatest gift we could ever receive and the greatest gift the Father could give: His own divine Son. This gift must be prayerfully pondered if we are to come to a deeper understanding of the infinite generosity of the Father.

from the "Laudate" app

Third, as we prayerfully enter deeper and deeper into our understanding of this incredible gift of the Son, our only appropriate response is faith. We must “believe in Him.” And our belief must deepen just as our understanding deepens.

Fourth, we must realize that eternal death is always possible. It is possible that we eternally “perish.” That realization will give even greater insight into the gift of the Son, in that we will realize that the first duty of the Son is to save us from eternal separation from the Father.

Lastly, the gift of the Son from the Father is not only to save us but also to draw us to the heights of Heaven. That is, we are given “eternal life.” This gift of eternity is of infinite capacity, value, glory and fulfilment.

Reflect, today, upon this summary of the whole Gospel: “God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” Take this line by line, prayerfully seeking to understand the beautiful and transforming truths revealed to us by our Lord in this holy conversation with Nicodemus. Try to see yourself as Nicodemus, a good person who is trying to understand Jesus and His teachings more clearly. If you can listen to these words with Nicodemus and accept them deeply in faith, then you, too, will share in the eternal glory these words promise.

"My glorious Lord, You came to us as the greatest Gift ever imagined. You are the gift of the Father in Heaven. You were sent out of love for the purpose of saving us and drawing us into the glory of eternity. Help me to understand and believe all that You are and to receive You as the saving Gift for Eternity.

Jesus, I trust in You."

Project Advance 2024 will soon be underway at our parish!

This year’s appeal will continue to provide life-changing programs that support the work of evangelization, charities, ministries, as well as building new secondary schools that nurture our young people throughout the diocese and to help our parish pay down the mortgage on our church and support future plans.

Soon you will receive a letter from Fr. Maciej explaining our goals plus a pledge form for this year’s campaign. Please consider making a donation. We would like to have 100% participation from our parishioners. Remember, every gift regardless of its size make a difference. Every gift counts.

You can contribute to Project Advance by completing the pledge form and either leaving it with our volunteers in the lobby from mid-May until early June, by dropping it in one of the collection boxes or at the office. You can also go online at projectadvance.ca, or call 604-683-0281 ext. 50323.

Our way forward begins with your generosity in growing our parish and local Catholic community. We’re grateful for your support.

The program is designed to introduce young people to the life of a street missionary, sharing a life of prayer and service with others who go out into the streets bringing the love of Jesus to the homeless. For two and a half weeks, participants will live a communal life, praying, learning, and reaching out to our homeless friends on the streets. There will be street outreach training, faith formation and personal skills development. We will also enjoy recreational activities together. Food and accommodation will be provided.

For more information and to register, please visit: https://www.catholicstreetmissionaries.org/horizon

The goal of “Fiat” Women’s Online Discernment Group is to provide a prayerful environment for young women to discern their vocation, primarily the possible call to Religious Life. These women are given an opportunity to listen to and discuss certain topics about discernment and Religious life in general. Hopefully this Discernment Group will be a good preparation for women who are called to Religious Life to enter the community they are called to with peace and an adequate knowledge of what the Church is asking and desiring for Religious Life.
