U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
|
The United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative (MCDI) is a public-private partnership to reduce exposure from diesel emissions throughout the Midwest. MCDI has partnered with groups in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin to educate diesel vehicle and equipment owners and operators, communities, and other interested parties about options for reducing emissions from those vehicles, and to find and fund clean diesel projects. In Indiana, South Shore Clean Cities and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management form the core of the Indiana Clean Diesel Coalition.
 As a partner in MCDI, South Shore Clean Cities is instrumental to conducting outreach and organizing clean diesel actions in Northwest Indiana. Through EPA and other funding (including US Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Department, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and environmental mitigation funds), South Shore Clean Cities works alongside its partners to help improve air quality in the region by replacing and/or cleaning up older diesel vehicles, engines, and equipment.
Goods movement comprises a large sector of diesel activity in Northwest Indiana. Opportunities exist for funding projects that reduce emissions from school buses, delivery vehicles, construction equipment, marine vessels, cargo handling equipment, locomotives, heavy duty trucks, and other diesel vehicles and equipment.

| Funding Opportunity Announcement |
 South Shore Clean Cities and partners will be pursuing a joint proposal for the recently announced 2016 Vehicle Technologies Multi-Topic Funding Opportunity Announcement. DOE seeks highly leveraged Alternative
Fuel Vehicle Community Partner Projects that will significantly accelerate the use of light, medium, and heavy duty vehicles that operate on fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, E85, hydrogen, natural gas, and propane as well as the fueling infrastructure needed to support them.
We are asking those who are interested in submitting a proposal to provide us with some information. This is an information gathering exercise and does not commit you and SSCC to partner on a project. Once this survey is complete, SSCC will contact you regarding any pertinent next steps.

| Green Fleet Education Sessions |
 South Shore Clean Cities, along with United Soybean Board, hosted the June 1st Green Fleet Education Session, This session focused on soy and biobased products that businesses and individuals can use for day to day operations.

| Solar Ready in Northwest Indiana |
 The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) encompasses three counties in Northwest Indiana, including: Lake, Porter, and LaPorte. NIRPC has partnered with South Shore Clean Cities to educate 41 municipalities and 771,000 residents about the benefits of solar in their community.
Recently the region has seen a rise in solar energy interest from local trade unions and two solar manufacturers have begun developing facilities in the area. NIRPC is leveraging these advances to advocate for more solar-friendly policies on the local level. | Midwest DRIVES Initiative |
 The
Midwest DRIVES Initiative is a U.S. Department of Energy funded program to offer fleets free demonstrations of advanced and alternative fuel and technology vehicles. The demos come with data logging equipment. Data driven case studies will help fleet administrators decide whether vehicles will work for their operations.
