SCFC Instrument and Private Pilot Ground School Continues Online
SCFC's Spring Private Pilot Ground School is being offered as recorded video lessons. Students can watch the lessons anytime that is convenient. Although in-person ground school is a much richer experience, while the current Health Office Shelter-In-Place Order is in effect, lessons will be recorded. Students can take the weekly lesson's quiz online as well as join the Private Pilot Ground School Slack Workspace to ask questions and get assistance. If you haven't joined the Private Pilot Ground School yet, you can still sign up here.
The SCFC Instrument Ground School is being recorded so it can be released as video lessons. Brian Eliot once again will be the instructor. This 12-week class goes into depth on the technical subject matters necessary to develop a solid foundation for taking the Airplane Instrument Knowledge test. Sign up online here.

SCFC: When did you start flying?
RB:
When I was 10 I was on a sightseeing flight when the pilot let me take the yoke for 2 glorious minutes! It was in 2016 when I started my training.
SCFC: Why did you become a CFI
RB:
To learn everything to the extent that I could teach it and work in an environment where I am continually learning. Instructing is a rewarding career since the results of your work have a positive impact on people.
SCFC: W
hat is it like to become a CFI?
RB:
It is a daunting task when you begin! It involves learning the fundamentals of instruction, creating lesson plans and developing a deep understanding of a variety of aviation subjects. That said, once you get the ball rolling it's just a matter of time before you see the fruits of your labor. If you are interested, work with others, be it at SCFC or CFI school, as this makes the intensive process much more manageable.
SCFC: What do you plan on doing in the future?
RB: Flying big fast planes around the world but before that I want to visit as many interesting local airports as I can and learn some aerobatic maneuvers.

On March 8, 2020, FOG flew to the Hollister airport for dinner and a Full Moon flight. Despite earlier weather it was a great flight with gorgeous views on the way home all illuminated by the full moon.
The group had a great dinner at the Seabrisa's restaurant that is located right next to the airport. Everyone had a great time, and FOG headed home.

Colorado Mountain Flying - July 1st - 5th
Each year an armada of FlyOutGroup airplanes departs the Bay Area bound for a fun and amazing mountain flying adventure!
This year we head back to Colorado for some awesome Rocky Mountain flying. We will take the northern route through Utah, landing at the Class B KSLC for an overnight stay in Salt Lake City. Day two and three will be flying in the Rockies and landing at challenging high elevation airports like Canyonlands (KCNY home of Arches National Park), Glenwood Springs (KGWS), Aspen (KASE), Leadville (KLXV) and Telluride (KTEX). Day Four we will travel west near Four Corners then across Monument Valley and then overfly the Grand Canyon en route to Las Vegas.
The trip is a great opportunity to complete your G1000 avionics or airplane-specific checkout and earn your high performance endorsement. Each plane will have 1 CFI and 2 pilots on board. Your registration fee is a $200 deposit and event fee is your CFI daily rate and aircraft flight hours. With two pilots per CFI and aircraft, the daily rate is halved between you and whomever you fly with to get mountain flying experience.
It promises to be an unforgettable flying adventure with plenty of room for ground-based fun as well. Visit the SCFC website for hotel information or to register for the event.
