Aircraft Mx Status Tracked in FSP v4
Flight Schedule Pro v4 is here, and with it comes aircraft maintenance status. We are in the process of integrating our Squawks Tracking and Inspection Countdown lists into v4's online schedule. You'll be able to check the status of squawks and required inspections from a single, integrated source. This will make it easier to pick the right aircraft for your next mission.
SCFC airplanes are the best maintained aircraft on the peninsula, and everyone plays a role. If you identify anything that needs attention, please send notes or photos to
squawks@sancarlosflight.com.

Winter is around the corner and besides the temperature dropping, what can we expect It's California and it's always nice right? Or will it be an El Nino or La Nina year? What about ceilings, winds or one of the most feared enemy of aviation, Mr Ice!
Today, the opportunity to speak with a local meteorologist have gone by the wayside. Now, pilots have a plethora of weather tools on the web have really streamlined gathering weather and preflight information. But talk to the seasoned pilot of not so long ago and they will be the first to tell you how valuable it was to chat with a meteorologist at the local flight service station to get a good feel of the weather and it's current trends before your flight.
Join us on December 16 at 12:00pm when San Carlos Flight Center welcomes back Ashley Helmeteg, who has worked as a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Unit at Oakland Center Air Route Traffic Control, to speak us on West Coast Weather. Be sure to register for the event to save your seat!

What to Expect from a Flight Review
On December 20 at 7:00pm, Herb Patten will deliver a safety seminar on the biennial flight review, a.k.a. BFR. The talk will include::
-
when flight reviews are required
-
what is required for compliance
-
what are options for compliance
-
how compliance is documented
-
who can perform a flight review
This will be augmented with actual experience from pilots that have completed their flight review along with input from several CFIs on how they conduct a flight review. The FAA provides some guidance on flight reviews which we will cover including the advisory circular and other published information. Want to know how to use the WINGS program to complete a flight review? Yep, we will cover that too! If you are in need of a flight review soon you will want to attend to learn what to expect and how to prepare for your flight review.
Any questions, contact us at (650) 946-1700 or info@sancarlosflight.com.

SCFC:
When did you realize you wanted to be a pilot?
DP: I played a lot of Microsoft Flight Simulator as a kid and always wanted to become a pilot "someday". Last year, I was talking with a friend-of-a-friend about his recent PPL experience and thought he was living my dream. I realized that I should be living my dream too, so I signed up for flight lessons.
SCFC:
You just got your PPL! Congrats! How did it feel to become a Private Pilot?
DP:
It's a big personal achievement for me. My grandfather was a pilot and worked in aviation, so it feels a bit like continuing his legacy and making my family proud. I just wish I had done it sooner!
SCFC: Who was your lucky first passenger?
DP: That was an easy one: my fiancée Le, for putting up with all my studying, training, and obsessive airplane talk. I'm still studyin
g, training, and obsessing, but at least now she can enjoy the view from up there with me too.
SCFC: What are your aviation goals?
DP:
I plan on continuing to train for my Instrument Rating to make me a safer pilot and help with the typical marine layer fog. I'm also hoping to get some tailwheel experience to see what that's like.
SCFC: What aviation adventure have you accomplished or wish to in the future?
DP: So far I've mostly been flying friends around for bay tours and breakfasts at KHAF. I'd like to fly to and visit all the aviation museums in California, and maybe eventually also eat at all the restaurants.
SCFC: What is your favorite flying memory?
DP: My good friend Juan met me for lunch at the airport on my first solo cross country to KSBP. It was a great taste of the freedom and speed that flying offers.
SCFC: What are your interests outside of aviation?
DP: I've been riding motorcycles for about 10 years and just recently started riding dirt bikes. Combined with weekend camping trips, it's been a great hobby to explore nearby state parks and national forests.

- Selection (Processes applications, hosts interviews)
- Outreach (Communicates to local high schools and aviation publications)
- Fundraising (Encouraging pilot donations to fund the program)
- Program (Overseeing execution of the summer training)

December FOG Adventures
ICON Factory Tour December 8 (Friday) 10:00am
We are getting a special look inside the ICON Factory where they build their amphibious aircraft. Fly to Nut Tree Airport (VCB) to meet up with other FOG pilots for a factory tour of this local manufacturer.
The tour is free, but we will need to find a way from transient parking on the south side of the field around to the factory on the northeast corner. After the tour, there are plenty of restaurants for lunch in the adjacent shopping complex.
There is limited space on the tour so please only sign up if you can definitely make it.
