Rae's Yarn Boutique
Weekly News
Greetings!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. What fantastic weather. A bit warmer/sunnier than ideal (for me at least), but certainly nothing to scuff at. It was nice to be able to explore the East Lansing Art Festival (and MSU Craft Fair) without worrying about rain.

Plenty of sunscreen & lots of water were called for, but I managed to navigate the weekend with a tan rather than a burn. I also managed to shop ahead for Fall birthdays/Christmas. Always a plus to stay ahead of the game.

The shops garden is coming along nicely! Bunches of new flowers opened up with the sunshine. Even the Roma Tomatoes are blooming already. A few plants I purchased with only buds on them have opened up giving me a surprise of color. I'm really enjoying seeing the new daisies & dahlias opening up giving me little pops of color.  I also really love the pink strawberry plants I found. Not only are the blooms very pretty, but the fruit is growing into very nicely sized and shaped strawberries. I'm looking forward to tasting them in a couple of weeks.

I also found out that Dorie got a photo of the Duck's nest before she covered the eggs. Mama Duck is still out there sitting on those eggs & now we know we have as many as 9 ducklings to look forward too!

Remember, the Shawl-a-long is meeting this week! I hope to see many of you Tuesday evening or Thursday around lunch time. I've now been pulled into the Color Affection fever. Those colors of Madelinetosh that arrived last week were too good to resist. I'm combining 2 colors of Madelinetosh with one from OurHumbleCastle.

Of course the colors aren't playing nice with my camera, they are darker and more blue than in the photo. The lightest one is more like a periwinkle, the brighter purple more like a raspberry, the blue is simply darker with almost black streaks.

Summer Shawl-a-Long

Meeting this week

kudzu

It's time for another round of community knitting. We've been falling in love with the abundance of beautiful shawl patterns available right now. In fact many of us are just itching to start the Color Affection shawl (or Color Infection as the Yarn Harlot has coined it). You can tell many of us here have indeed been infected and are grouping sock yarns in pretty collections of 3. Debating on whether the lightest color should be the first color, or the second second knit. Deciding if we could hold 2 strands of lace weight together instead of the fingering for an even drapier shawl.

So, we're hoping that the shawl fever spreads to you & that you're willing to join us in a summer knit-a-long, or rather Shawl-a-Long.

You'll hopefully notice from our photos above that shawl does not have to equal lace. There are many beautiful shawls that are entirely garter stitch, not a yarn-over in sight. You're not limited to the shawls shown either, any shawl or wrap is welcome.

Thinking you might join us? All you need to do is stop in to get your pattern & yarn, then come to the meeting time that best fits your schedule. The Knit-a-long is free (of course we appreciate if you purchase your materials here). Although this is not a class, we will do our best to answer quick questions or point you in the right direction.

So...
