LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
Once again, New River Community College's Workforce Development division will be presenting the "Leadership in Action" supervisory course curriculum.
Plans are to offer the program beginning in late September to run for seven consecutive weeks. Based on the interest of the participating firms, NRCC will coordinate the actual start date to accommodate their schedules and the cost will be approximately $150 per participant.
This program is primarily for the "front line supervisor" or those that have been promoted to a new leadership role within the past two years. Each of the seven class sessions will consist of:
*3 hours of discussion and group interaction
*Power point slides, supported by videos and other methods of learning
*A course outline and work sheet provided to each participant to utilize during the class and as a take away referral.
*Strong encouragement for participants for "practice" the lessons learned from previous sessions and review with on "lessons" learned.
The course topics of the seven sessions will include:
*Introduction to Supervisory Development
*HR Legal Basics in the Workplace
*Interview Skills/Behavioral Interviewing
*Coaching as a Leader/Managing Generations in Today's Workplace
*Conducting Effective Performance Evaluations
*Employee Discipline & Documentation/Conflict Resolution
*Boosting Motivation and Morale

MILES OF PENNIES FOR SUPPLIES FOR SENIORS
Help collect 1 mile of pennies for "Supplies For Seniors"
1 mile = 84,480 pennies or $844.80
Bring your pennies and other change and put them in the marked containers. All of the money raised will help purchase necessary household supplies for over 280 Homebound Seniors living in the New River Valley. Containers can be found at the Pulaski Senior Center.
Last year over $1,100 was raised in pennies - spread the word and help top last year's total.

WARNER ON YOUR CORNER
Representatives from Senator Mark Warner's office will be traveling around the Commonwealth to meet with individual Virginians who have specific issues dealing with federal agencies. They will be at Pulaski County Library from 10 a.m. - noon on the third Thursday of each month (August 18, September 22, October 20, November 17, and December 15, 2011).
