Have you ever had a near-death experience? A few days ago, I ran late for an appointment because my children seemed to move even slower when I wanted to get somewhere early. I hate being late for appointments. This morning, I ran late and was short during drop-off, with my children rushing them out of the car.
Sometimes, God brings things into perspective when your life flashes before your eyes. I was going north on Oklahoma, and a car was coming south under the bridge. I saw the car come around the corner at top speed. The car was driving so fast that when the driver hit the curve, the vehicle went airborne and swerved in my direction. This was a moment when time stood still. I remember saying he was going to hit me. I paused, wondering where the car would land.
Long story short, his car hit a light pole, splitting it in the middle. I swerved as the tires, the fender, and the glass exploded, flying off the car in my direction. Sitting there with shaken hands, I realized that our vehicles would have collided if I had been a few inches from the pole.
My mom used to tell me to stop rushing so much. She said your delay may save you from something up ahead. I am grateful for the week's delay. I am thankful that when I swerved to miss the airborne car, there wasn't a car in the lane next to me. No one was hurt. The gentleman climbed out through the window of the vehicle and touched himself. He, too, was shocked that he had a near-death experience and survived.
I shared this with a friend who told me I often wonder if guardian angels exist, but you reignited my faith in angels. I am grateful for the angels in my life, and more importantly, I was thankful for the opportunity to hug my babies. The moral of the story is that appointments can be rescheduled, and in this life, there are no dress rehearsals for our lives. Make sure those you love know you love them. Remember to say I love you or hug them. We never know when we leave their presence if it will be our last.
Prayer for Today
God, open our eyes to the little miracles that surround us daily. Help us find joy in the simple things—a beautiful sunset, a kind word from a friend, or a moment of laughter. Your love is present in every detail of our lives, and we want to celebrate that. Help us cultivate a grateful heart and find happiness in the blessings You have given us. Amen.

Summer of Learning/Growth
The summer's sermon series is informed by the book "Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water and Loving the Bible Again" by the late Rachael Held Evans. The author, Rachael, a progressive Christian writer, looks at the bible stories from a fresh perspective. I hope you read along with us this summer on your Libby app, Audible, or the old-fashioned paper copy.
Keep the Faith,
Pastor Teresa
