Dear Pleasantville Families,
Last week, our Director of Facilities Steve Chamberlain, Assistant Superintendent for Business John Chow and Board of Education trustee Lucas Cascardo met with community members to discuss plans for the restoration of the Bedford Road School sign. After discussion on the available options, the group recommended next steps and we will be moving forward with them.
These steps include removing the new sign and potentially reusing it, and restoring the original sign to the best extent possible. Additionally, the plan entails discouraging children from climbing on the sign by adding plants in front of it, alongside educating students at BRS about its significance to the community.
The collaboration between the community, administration and Board of Education has resulted in a productive solution that addresses many concerns regarding the sign that were brought to my attention.
Through this entire process, I am thankful for being able to connect with community members to listen and learn about the rich history of the community, the Pleasantville school buildings and district at large. With engagement and communication, our collaborative efforts can continue to support the youth in Pleasantville to become lifelong learners, dynamic thinkers, and passionate, contributing citizens.
For the youth,
Dr. Tina DeSa
Superintendent of Schools
