Wall Street Journal Article Sparks Debate

WSJ: Why is Washington Asking Itself “Are Potatoes a Vegetable?”

From the National Potato Council

"The scientific debate isn’t easy to follow. But it sounds like a half-baked idea to Kam Quarles, chief executive of the National Potato Council," writes the Wall Street Journal in a story published yesterday titled, Does That Potato Count as a Vegetable? The New Polarizing Food Debate.”

Is a potato a vegetable? That's what some nutrition "experts" are asking themselves, and that answer could have far-reaching effects on federal nutrition policy for decades. A Helping Hand at the Holidays

Last year, Northland Potatoes launched our Potato Blessing Project to help feed those in our community. Here is an update from this holiday season.

Hope Church in Grand Forks has 300 community members come in monthly to shop their food pantry. The Mission in downtown Grand Forks feeds their residents a Thanksgiving meal and also delivers meals and hands out meals to anyone in the community.

Donation to The Grand Forks Mission.

Donation to the Hope Church Food Pantry

To help with this need this past Thanksgiving, J G Hall & Sons from Hoople donated 300 pounds of potatoes to Northlands Rescue Mission and 250 pounds of potatoes to the Hope Church Food Pantry. In addition Northland Potatoes donated potato chips to the Hope Church pantry.

Northland Potatoes couldn’t be more excited about this. Many will be blessed!!
