DOT Sends Six-Year Transportation Bill to Congress and Announces TIGER Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation made two important announcements last week: the submission of a six-year transportation bill to Congress, and the availability of $500 million for the seventh round of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) competitive grant program.

The GROW AMERICA Act is a six-year, $478 billion transportation reauthorization bill that invests in modernizing America's infrastructure, with a focus on safety, freight, transit access, a more efficient permitting process, innovative financing, and empowering local governments. A summary of the bill is available here, and fact sheets on estimated state-by-state impacts of the bill are available here.

The TIGER 2015 discretionary grant competition will focus on surface transportation infrastructure projects that generate economic development and improve access to reliable, safe and affordable transportation for disconnected communities both urban and rural, while emphasizing improved connection to employment, education, services and other opportunities, workforce development, or community revitalization. The pre-application deadline is May 4, 2015 and the final application deadline is June 5. More information is available here.
