House Committee to Hold Hearing on Brownfields, Senate Committee to Hold Hearing on Water Bills

This morning at 10 AM, the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee will hold a hearing entitled "Building a 21st Century Infrastructure for America: Revitalizing American Communities through the Brownfields Program," in Rayburn 2167. Among the panelists who will be testifying before the Committee are Mayor  J. Christian Bollwage from Elizabeth, New Jersey (on behalf of the U.S. Conference of Mayors) and Cleveland City Councilmember Matt Zone (on behalf of the National League of Cities). The House T&I Committee will also hold a markup on Wednesday at 10 AM where it is scheduled to markup nine separate bills including the Coast Guard Improvement and Reform Act of 2017.  For the full list of legislation expected to be considered at the markup, please see the T&I Committee's website.  

Additionally, this afternoon at 2:15 PM, the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee will hold a legislative hearing on three bills that deal with water pollution, water affordability and the Clean Water Act in Dirksen 406. The three bills that will be discussed are:
  • The Small and Rural Community Clean Water Technical Assistance Act - Authorizes $75 million in grants over five years to help water utilities that serve rural areas manage their water systems.
     
  • The Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act  - Promotes the use of "green" infrastructure when prioritizing wastewater projects and requires the EPA to revise its affordability guidelines. 
     
  • The Long Island Sound Restoration and Stewardship Act - Authorizes two water quality and shore restoration programs at $40 million and $25 million per year, respectively. 
The witnesses who will be testifying before the Committee include Mayor Richard Gray of of Lancaster, PA and Erin Crotty, the Executive Director of Audubon New York. A live stream of the hearing will be available on the EPW Committee's website.

On Wednesday at 10 AM, the Senate Commerce, Transportation,  and Science Committee will hold a hearing entitled " Closing the Skills Gap and Boosting U.S. Competitiveness," in Dirksen G50. More details about the hearing can be viewed at the Commerce Committee's website.
