Nature's Water Quality Monitors | If you've ever taken a look under the rocks of a local stream or used a dip net to dredge up sediment (and its inhabitants) from the lake bed, you've gotten a glimpse of the local macroinvertebrate community. Along with clues to water quality, the world of aquatic macroinvertebrates is full of amazing - and artistic - adaptions!
|
Join us at this month's Nature Station to explore the world of macroinvertebrates hands-on! September 21 & 24, 10am-12pm at Grey Rocks Conservation Area. More details at: NewfoundLake.org/events.

Flip the Switch for Birds
It's bird migration season! You can help them pass safely overhead by limiting light pollution. Turn off outdoor lighting when not in use, especially between 11pm and 6am when most migrating birds are flying.
|
Research shows light pollution can be disruptive and even dangerous to wildlife, including birds. Outdoor lights can disorient migrating birds, increasing the risk of exhaustion, predation, and fatal collisions. By limiting outdoor lighting or switching to dark sky compliant fixtures, you can protect migrating birds on their journey south.

Stewardship Journal: Jenna Detar | Change is in the air in the Newfound Watershed. If you look closely, you notice the first few trees scattered around the forest-covered hills beginning to transition from bright green to deep golden. If you close your eyes, you can feel the slight chill in the breeze and hear the subtle silence that accompanies the end of summer vacation.
